Specs, price and release date of Samsung Galaxy S III Mini leaked

We all know how popular Samsung’s Android flagship device for 2012, the Samsung Galaxy S III has become. Samsung Galaxy S3 continues to rock, in fact it is touted as the best Android phone ever. Samsung is known to launch scaled down versions of its popular high end smartphones, and that’s a very good strategy because low- and mid-range devices are actually the volume segment, so if a manufacturer is looking to grow the numbers, that’s what they should be doing.

There were rumors on the internet that Samsung will be sticking to its strategy of manufacturing smaller versions of its flagship device and launch a scaled down variant of Samsung Galaxy S III. We didn’t know whether the rumors were true or not until yesterday when Samsung’s own JK Shin confirmed to the Korean press that the rumor was indeed true and such a device will be launching today, October 11th.

The new device will be called as Galaxy S III mini. Samsung had sent out invitations last week for an event set to be held on Oct. 11 and the invites were for an event that will be held in Germany, and the invitations tease that Samsung will show “how big small can be.” From the looks of it, the device is targeted towards the European market. As the name suggests, the device will be obviously smaller than the flagship device, which is kind of huge. Shin has already confirmed officially that the mini will be having a 4 inch screen, and a smaller price tag.

“We’ll be launching a 4-inch Galaxy S III on the 11th in Germany,” Shin said. “There’s a lot of demand for a 4-inch screen device in Europe. Some call it an entry-level device, but we call it ‘mini.’”

Now that the device has been confirmed officially, information on the specs, price and release date have also leaked out. The device in question has already been appeared at a few Scandinavian retailers, and folks at Mobilegeeks have got their hands on full specs of the device. Taking a look at the specs, it turns out that Samsung Galaxy S III mini is nothing but yet another mid-range device. There’s no quad-core Exynos chip and high resolution display that brought fame to Galaxy S3, instead Samsung has decided to go ahead with a dual-core 1GHz ST-Ericsson chip and a WVGA display.
