The Samsung Galaxy Camera was shown off by Samsung at the IFA this year in Berlin. The Korean manufacturer managed to surprise us all with this unique new concept of a media device built into a top notch point and shoot camera. The device just screams of social networking and image sharing on the go, which is the device’s USP too. The Galaxy Camera got announced on AT&T in October for $499.99. It’s a pretty decent price considering what it can do with its 4.8-inch display and a massive 16MP camera with a 21X optical zoom. However, some felt that the device was very limited as it was available only on AT&T in the U.S. However, it seems like Verizon too is going to get its own variant of the Galaxy Camera fairly soon. Well, The Verge managed to spot the Galaxy Camera for Verizon listed on Samsung’s website, but it was taken down as the information began to spread.
This pretty much confirms the device’s second coming in the market and we should see the announcement coming from Verizon very shortly. The Galaxy Camera on AT&T featured HSPA+ connectivity, but this one here will have LTE connectivity to benefit from the speedy 4G LTE network on Verizon. This comes as an added bonus for Verizon users. Sadly, we don’t have the product page now to go into details of the device, but we shouldn’t see it being much different from its AT&T sibling. A press release for the Galaxy Camera on Verizon Wireless should be coming anytime soon now.
Pricing will be a key factor for the success of the device. AT&T’s $499 pricing, wasn’t accepted by a lot of users. So it is expected that Verizon goes easy on the customers. As it is a relatively new concept, people are less inclined on getting it. And besides, only people with keen interest on photography would get such a device. Regardless, it’s good to have a device like this in the market which constantly reminds us how we have a lot of options today. Samsung did the same thing with the Galaxy Note in 2011.
Along with the mammoth camera and the media functionality, the Galaxy Camera also features a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD, a quad core Exynos 4412 chipset, 1GB of RAM and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Would you get the Galaxy Camera if it is launched on Verizon? What do you think of the device?
