The Play Store sale we spotted kicking off in Australia earlier today has started hitting the US this evening, marking the 1-year anniversary of the Play Store. The deals so far are mostly songs and various in-app purchase / offer discounts, but the splash page for the promotion indicates there will be even more deals as the week goes on.
Here are the deals so far.
- In-app: free $20 gift card at Fancy
- Free track: “Sweet Jane” by The Velvet Underground
- In-app: 10% off any Hotels.com purchase made in the app

Yeah, it isn’t our favorite Play Store promo, either – a lot of these are rehashes, and some of them barely qualify as ‘deals’ (who can’t find the pilot episode of Breaking Bad for free?).

Final Fantasy Dimensions Turns One on Google Play, Celebrates With 50% Off Sale
Final Fantasy Dimensions has hit its one year anniversary on Google Play. To celebrate, they are hosting a pretty sweet 50% off sale on the $20 title, bringing it to just $10. Pitfall Harry celebrates his 30th with a re-booted release on Android
The original version of Pitfall came along with the Activision Anthology game that landed in Google Play a while back. And well, as of today, Pitfall Harry has returned to Android with a “re-envisioned and re-booted” release. This latest release is simply called Pitfall and has arrived for the 30th anniversary of the original.

Needless to say, this version of Pitfall does not look like the original. The game is available for free and with support for devices running Android 2.3.3 or later. This version of Pitfall is in a ‘free runner” style and has you navigating though the jungle as well as narrow trenches, dark caverns, and cascading waterfalls.
You will also have to navigate things such as rattlesnakes and scorpions as well as fiery volcanic flames, tumbling ancient artifacts and narrow cliff side pathways. The game has swipe and tilt controls and sharing over Twitter and Facebook — so you can brag to your friends about how good you are at Pitfall.
All said and done, this looks like a nice follow-up to the original. And if nothing else, we are fairly sure it will make those who remember playing the original feel rather old. Otherwise, the only thing we see missing, it would have been cool if Activision included the original game release as a bonus. But hey, this version if free and we really shouldn’t be so greedy.

Activision’s 30th-Anniversary PITFALL! Rework Hits The Play Store As An Endless Runner With A Little More To Offer
Bringing its already-popular (on iOS) reimagining of the Atari classic to Android, Activision released Pitfall! to the Play Store today. For those who haven’t seen or played the newly conceptualized Pitfall, it shares very little with the original – you’ll still be dodging snakes, swinging on ropes, and jump over impossible pitfalls, but this time you’ll be playing an “endless-runner” a la Temple Run. Unlike Temple Run, however, Pitfall’s protagonist (Pitfall Harry) uses a whip to defeat whatever wild foes happen to be in his way. Harry will also find himself riding various vehicles and running through plenty of dynamic environments.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City makes an early appearance on the Play Store, not ready for Consumption
Sounds like Rockstar Games made a boo boo today. Grand Theft Auto Vice City found its way to the Play Store this morning and a number of people managed to catch it and get it downloaded. That is great for them, as long as the validation went through. Shortly after the game was released Rockstar pulled it. Claiming the game wasn’t actually ready for consumption on the Play Store yet.
“We’re aware that some users have attempted to download Vice City: 10th Anniversary Edition from the Google Play Store and have experienced validation errors.
Just to be clear: the game is not available for Android devices just yet, and if you’re seeing it listed on the Store then this is an error, and you shouldn’t attempt to download it. We’ll keep you up to date and let you know as soon as the game is live and available to purchase.”
Not a good way to start off with a release that a lot of users have eagerly been waiting for. We have seen stranger things happen in the past though. The important thing to know is that it is close to finally being launched. I don’t about you guys, but I am pretty excited.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Anniversary Trailer for Android has been Released
Ready for a little nostalgia? I cannot believe it has been ten years, since I played GTA: Vice City. Amazing how in a decade, the game has gone from a game console that is played on a TV, to being able to play it on my phone. We already got GTA III on our devices, now we can take a trip back to the 80′s with Vice City hitting our devices on December 6th. So take a look at the trailer Rockstar Games released yesterday, and remember, those graphics were the top of their game ten years ago on PS2.
Rockstar Games releases Anniversary Trailer to celebrate the mobile release of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Rockstar Games already announced that Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be coming to select Android devices on December 6, but to wet your appetite a little, they released an anniversary trailer celebrating 10 years since the original game was launched. This video is for those of you that are 17 or older, so if you are, then hit the break and let us know if you’re excited to play this one on your mobile device.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City hijacking Android and iOS on December 6th for $5
Following the footsteps of its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is making its way to Android and iOS. Rockstar announced today that a special 10th Anniversary Edition of the open world Scarface / Miami Vice inspired sim will be hitting the two popular mobile platforms on December 6th for $5. This spiffed-up mobile port includes updated character models, enhanced lighting effects, improved targeting and fully customizable control options. Technical upgrades aside, we caution not to drive directly against the sun while riding a motorcycle within the game; it nearly blinded us in the original console version, so we can only imagine how harsh it will be on your fancy high-res display. Don’t say that we didn’t warn you. Move past the break for a complete list of supported devices.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition coming December 6
The folks at Rockstar are bringing another one of its classic Grand Theft Auto games to our beloved Android devices. This time, they are bringing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition for us to enjoy. The game will be dropping on Google Play on December 6 for $4.99.

The game is going to feature native-resolution graphics and enhancements unique to mobile devices. The control layout is customizable for each user, so you can fine-tune them to your liking. The game also includes updated character models and improved lighting effects to make the game pop on mobile phones and tablets. GTA 3 came out on mobile and it was pretty solid. Hopefully Rockstar uses what it learned from the release to make this one even better.
The device list is pretty large, and there very well could be other devices not listed that the game will work on. Most of the major phones and tablets are listed, so chances are great that it will work on your device of choice. If you get the game on an unlisted device, you are taking a risk, but you could discover a device that Rockstar has not yet tested it on. Here is the list of devices:
Android Phones: Motorola Razr, Razr Maxx, Razr Maxx HD, Motorola Atrix, Motorola Photon, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Rezound, HTC One X, HTC One S, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Sensation, HTC Droid Incredible 2, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy Note 1 & 2, Samsung S2, Samsung Galaxy R, Sony Xperia Play, Sony Xperia S, P, T & TL, Sony Walkman Z Series Media Player, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy S3, Google Nexus 4
Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime, LG Optimus Pad, Medion Lifetab, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 / 10.1, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, Sony Tablet S, Sony Tablet P, Toshiba Thrive, HTC Flyer, Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus 10
As you can see, the list is pretty large. We will have to wait until the December 6 to find out how the game is, but if Rockstar’s previous history is any indication, the game will probably be very good. Rockstar is also releasing a bunch of collectible 10th Anniversary items to go along with the launch of the game, which could make a great holiday gift for any GTA fan.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City 10th Anniversary Edition launching on December 6th
We’ve just received a very straightforward message from Rockstar Games, announcing that the mobile version of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City will be arriving on December 6th for a UK-adjusted price of £3.72. Which in all forms of modern currency is something of a bargain.
Rockstar says we can expect to see “updated character models and lighting effects, new and more precise firing and targeting options, a fully customizable control layout and native support for Retina display devices” in this mobile version of the legendary game’s code.
The publisher also very kindly attached a list of “supported” Android devices, so you can more accurately gauge whether it’s worth getting excited about it or not. Here that is:
Android Phones: Motorola Razr, Razr Maxx, Razr Maxx HD, Motorola Atrix, Motorola Photon, Motorola Droid Bionic, HTC Rezound, HTC One X, HTC One S, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Sensation, HTC Droid Incredible 2, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Nexus S, Samsung Galaxy Note 1 & 2, Samsung S2, Samsung Galaxy R, Sony Xperia Play, Sony Xperia S, P, T & TL, Sony Walkman Z Series Media Player, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy S3, Google Nexus 4
Android Tablets: Acer Iconia, Asus Eee Pad Transformer, Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime, LG Optimus Pad, Medion Lifetab, Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 / 10.1, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, Sony Tablet S, Sony Tablet P, Toshiba Thrive, HTC Flyer, Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus 10
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City to launch on Android on December 6

We've previously heard that GTA Vice City 10th Anniversary edition would be heading to our Android devices, but until now we didn't know when. The wait is almost at an end, with today's announcement from Rockstar Games that we can expect Vice City to drop on December 6. Following on from last years release of GTA III Anniversary edition, Vice City of course takes us back to the 1980's as Tommy Vercetti.
The price of GTA Vice City is to be a reasonable $5, less than the price GTA III made at launch, although like its predecessor there is a potential compatibility issue. Rockstar has kindly listed the devices that will be compatible at launch, though thankfully this time round, it isn't quite so depressing. Many of the latest devices are to be supported immediately, including the new Nexus 4 and Nexus 10:
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for Android coming this fall
It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since GTA: Vice City was released on consoles. For those wanting more nostalgia on their Android device, and have put GTA III through its paces, you now have reason to celebrate as is the case for Rockstar Games celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Vice City. This fall you’ll be able to run over all the random people that you want complete random, shady missions for some virtual, shady folks in an open-world style Miami-like setting. Device compatibility will be limited initially, but hopefully they’ll slowly roll more compatible devices after release.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for Android announced

As a part of their 10-year anniversary for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Rockstar Games has announced that the classic console game will be finding its way to Android this fall. The original graphics will be included along with a few "enhancements" for mobile. It sounds like device compatibility is going to be limited for the time being, but they aren't telling us specifics just yet.
The third-person shooter puts players in control of Tommy Vercetti, a mobster who has been sent from New York Liberty City to Miami Vice City after being in jail for a few years. While there's a main storyline, GTA games are well-known for their open-world exploration, allowing you to really soak in an exaggerated, parodied atmosphere of 1980's Florida. Of course, there's plenty of random acts of crime to indulge in, too.
GTA 3 has been available on Android since last December, and is actually on sale now for $0.99 as a part of the Vice City anniversary. Any big Vice City fans out there? How well did Rockstar do porting GTA 3 to Android?

eBay Refreshes Logo To Celebrate Anniversary
eBay is celebrating its seventeen years of online existence since its launch in September 1995 by redesigning its logo. The revamp introduces a much simpler design. Instead of the original quirky overlapping letters, the designers used a simple sans serif font with tight kerning. Interestingly, the new logo, like the old one, does not follow how eBay commonly stylizes the company name, that is, with a lowercase “e” and an uppercase “B.” As for the colors, the new logo has a color palette of red, blue, yellow, and green that is similar with, though not completely the same as, the original eBay logo.
According to an official statement by eBay president Devin Wenig, the more modern look mirrors eBay’s “cleaner, more contemporary and consistent experience.” Meanwhile, the vibrant colors stand for the “connected and diverse eBay community.”
The change, according to Wenig, likewise reflects eBay’s evolution. Years ago, eBay started as a website that holds auctions of unique and quirky items, and while it continues being so, it has also expanded.
For instance, eBay now allows retailers and large brands to provide deals for their consumers on the website. It has also extended its e-commerce to mobile device with the eBay app that is available on various platforms. According to eBay, the apps have gotten more than 100 million downloads. They are also expected to bring in more than $100 billion worth of transactions through mobile devices.
eBay promises that it will keep introducing innovations to remain competitive. Its direction is towards more personalized shopping as well as providing sellers more selections and buyers, more opportunities. eBay currently boasts of having 100 million active users. Furthermore, its 25 million sellers from all over the globe continue to increase.
eBay joins Microsoft and Twitter as one of the tech companies which recently opted for a simpler, minimalist logo. Microsoft now uses a logo with four colored squares, reminiscent of the User Interface of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Twitter, for its part, dropped the text logo for an image of a bird, and directed all designers using other logos to adopt the change.

It’s ThinkGeek’s 13th Anniversary! Woohoo!
If you don’t know what ThinkGeek is, man, you must be the minority that is missing out on a lot of cool stuff! This website/online store is a Geek’s best friend. It has everything geeky, just name it and they have it. If they don’t well, you’ll probably see it up within the next two to three weeks. Their goal? From the consumer side of things, it seems as if they want to have the largest geek inventory known on this planet. From the personal side of things, the owners are just a bunch of geeks sharing their geeky love with the community by offering some nerd-inspired peripherals and other useful geeky items that you probably don’t need but would want to have anyway.
Essentially all ThinkGeek is is a sort of Amazon service for geeks. Though it does not have anything close to Amazon’s inventory, it does have some pretty cool stuff. You’ll find things like an Iron Man light-up shirt, the rare Lord of the Rings Collectors Edition book, Sonic Bomb alarm clocks, talking alarm clocks with British accents, entertaining shirts and even Zombie Blast Energy Shots (you don’t even want to know what the Zombie Shots are about).
Recently, I got an e-mail from ThinkGeek talking about their 13th anniversary. It’s been that long since it’s create? Seriously? Wow, have they come such a long way and made such a big name for themselves. Here’s an excerpt from the email I received:
ThinkGeek was founded on August 13, 1999 by a handful of ISP-running geeks who printed up a few t-shirts just for fun. Since then, some things have changed–our “warehouse” is no longer a glorified utility closet–but others haven’t, like the support from geeks like you. It’s an honor to still be around on an ever-changing internet.
Guess what was in my e-mail? ThinkGeek decided to announce a week long sale they were having to celebrate thirteen years of supplying geekiness to geeks all over the world. I had thought that this sale would only be one item a day, but it turns out that ThinkGeek releases one item that goes on sale on a daily basis and those items will be on sale until the end of the week. What exactly is on sale though? Well, you probably think they just put a bunch of cheap junk on sale. I would like to inform you that you’re wrong, sir. Here’s just what’s on sale along with some of their funny taglines:
Bag of Holding:
When the last d20 is rolled, and Tiamat’s dying scream shakes the cavern walls, only two things remain: the distribution of experience points to the party, and loot. Your party’s dwarf fighter, and that human paladin might be able to lug piles of gold and platinum, but your little gnome mage can’t quite heft that much stuff. What to do?
The chaotic neutral halfling thief offered to carry a portion of your loot, but do you really trust “Shifty McFingers” with your well-earned booty, or can you find another way to carry it all? Luckily, amidst the ponderous piles of platinum lying about the place is a simple nondescript bag that everyone overlooked – except you, of course. Peering into the bag, you see nothingness – an almost infinite depth in which you can place way more loot than your entire party combined! While the rest of your party is trudging away with a backbreaking mass of booty, you’re happily plundering ton after ton of coins, and casually flinging your new bag over your shoulder.
While transdimensional space is, as yet, impossible in this plane of existence (Doctor Who fans, keep quiet for now), ThinkGeek Labs has developed our own messenger bag that comfortably carries way more than a bag of its size normally could! It’s big enough to carry a 17″ laptop, Large 3-ring binder, two college textbooks, two paperback books, Amazon Kindle, iPod, cellphone, cables, pencils, business cards, spare batteries… I could go on and on. – ThinkGeek
The Bag of Holding is simply a huge backpack for those who don’t understand the “geek speak.” It was both designed and made by ThinkGeek for those tech enthusiasts. With that in mind, they needed a simple design that would be able to fit numerous items like your 19″ laptop, the iPad or Transformer Pad, and so on. They just want to make sure that you have all of the goodies that you need to head to the local gaming cafe or coffee shop!
Think that no one would get this? Heh, sorry again, but the Bag of Holding has been Out of Stock from high demand numerous times. I was tempted to get this item this week, but I resisted. It was hard as the bag is usually set around $77. Their anniversary sale has brought it down by 33 percent making it set around $49.99. So tempting.
There’s a bunch of other items to and more to come as the week unfolds. I won’t list them all here since we simply aren’t ThinkGeek. But. If you’re interested in participating in ThinkGeek’s 13th anniversary and some of their items interest you, make sure to head over to their website every morning at 9am EST for a new item! Friday is the last day left, so there’s only one more item to reveal, make sure to keep your eyes peeled as it could be a big one. They might just decide to finish the sale with a bang, you know?
It’s important to note that when you buy some of these items you’ll get a free 13th anniversary shirt included with your order. Cool, huh? That’s not all though. In the case of the Bag of Holding, they send you a LED Dice with it for no reason except to say thanks for sticking with them for these long thirteen years! Other items may have those same deals, just need to look out for them though!
Have you participated in the ThinkGeek sale? Will you even be participating in the ThinkGeek sale? If you have, tell us what you got, and if you’re willing, share some pictures!

In case you didn’t know, as part of a Memorial Day weekend sale, Rockstar Games has discounted Grand Theft Auto III in the Play Store to a single dollar. That means for only $1, you can cruise around Liberty City, helping virtual city dwellers and doing all sorts of good deeds, right? Let’s be real, you’re gonna run over pedestrians. But at least you’ll have a good time doing it. Don’t forget, GTA3 is Tegra optimized meaning you can look forward better performance and HD quality resolutions with the stutter of other processors. You can find it in the TegraZone or Google Play Store.
The next GTA game from the series I’d like to see get the THD treatment? Grand Theft Auto Vice City. It may not come as much of a surprise to many of you, but I’ve always had a thing for hot pink and new wave music. Don’t forget to tell us your pick and good luck everyone!

Thanks to the fine folks at NVIDIA and Sega, I’ve been playing Sonic 4: Episode II on the ASUS Transformer Prime with the Logitech Wireless controller. I was pressured by my friends to get the Xbox 360 version, but I honestly have no need — the Tegra HD version looks just as good, and I can just as easily hook my tablet up to my TV using an HDMI cable.
I can use it while it’s inside its tablet dock. I can get my Sonic 4 fix on the go, and I can download it on other Tegra 3 devices. It was a no-brainer even if I did have to pay for it. Be sure to find Sonic 4: Episode II in TegraZone and the Google Play Store.
