Spec Comparison: HTC One vs. Nexus 4. vs. DROID DNA vs. Galaxy Note 2

Yep, we have a brand spankin’ new flagship to talk about, so that means a spec comparison is in order. The HTC One, which didn’t garner a lot of bragging from HTC on a spec front during its unveiling, really is quit the beast in terms of hardware. On paper, because phones are all so [...]

Google+ adds Facebook-style Pages for brands and sites

Google+ is quickly maturing into a contender in the social network space, and as Google’s social web of choice, it’s becoming ever more important to Android users. Today the official Google blog announced the addition of Pages, bringing Google+ even more in line with Facebook by offering brands, sites and, well, anything a way to make a centralized landing zone for all Google+ interactions. The feature is live already, but not everyone can create new pages at the moment.

In addition to the standard circle and +1 features you’d expect, Pages will allow businesses and other entities to take advantage of the live video systems built-in to Google+, with employees or fans. And of course, Pages will be accessible from regular old Google searches. The pages themselves look a lot like the regular Google+ profiles you’re already familiar with.

Check out the official video below:

Pages is a brand-spankin new feature, and while every Google+ user can access some ready-made pages like the Dallas Cowboys and The Muppets, not everyone can create pages just yet. Google’s been going through the updates for the Google+ Android app fast, so expect an update in the next few weeks that supports the Pages feature. And of course, we’ll be sharing the Android Community Google+ page with you just as soon as it’s ready. Oh, and Google’s Android team is already up, so add them to your circles now!

Verizon to begin offering double the data for your buck tomorrow as a limited time promo

The blazing-fast speeds you get from LTE are absolutely wonderful, but the joyride you’re relishing can be over rather quickly when you have a capped data plan. Verizon’s reportedly offering new and existing 4G-wielding (read: 3G excluded) customers a nice holiday bonus beginning tomorrow: for the same monthly cost, Big Red will give you twice as much data. In other words, $30 will get you hooked up with 4GB, $50 delivers 10GB and $80 can land you a whopping 20GB of total LTE goodness; for everyone else, a 300MB plan should be available for $20. From the sound of it, the deal isn’t going to be around for very long, you have to specifically request it via customer service or your online Verizon account and there’s been no confirmation as to whether or not customers will be grandfathered into these plans as soon as they’re gone. We’re still awaiting word from Verizon on additional details, but the extra cap will go quite nicely with your brand-spankin’ new RAZR or Galaxy Nexus, we’d say. VZW LTE FTW.

Update: We just stumbled upon a leaked screenshot (shown below the break), courtesy of VZBuzz. If this is the real deal, it confirms that customers will be grandfathered into the promotional plans until they choose to move to a different feature.

Update 2: And we got the official nod straight from Verizon: “Beginning tomorrow, Verizon Wireless will introduce a limited time promotion that offers customers the opportunity to receive double the amount of data for the same monthly fee for all Verizon Wireless 4G smartphones. For example, a customer who purchases the 2 GB plan for $30 will receive 4 GB for $30. The plans is available for new and existing customers. Existing customers need to request the change via customer service or through their My Verizon accounts — the free portal where customers can view and pay their bill, make changes to their account and purchase new devices.”

Yes Folks, the DROID RAZR is Unlockable Everywhere in the World But the U.S.

We touched on this twice last week when the DROID RAZR was announced, but since it seems to be getting an enormous amount of play today and over the weekend, we thought we would bring it up one last time. So here we go. Yes folks, the brand spankin’ new DROID RAZR by Motorola is [...]

Verizon source claims Nexus Prime announcement rescheduled for November 3rd

For the continually moving target that is the Nexus Prime, there’s at least one possible new release date. A forum member claiming to be a Verizon insider says that the next Android superphone will be announced on November 3rd along with Ice Cream Sandwich. The informant is anonymous, so as always, take the info with a grain of salt.

The source goes on to let out some juicy details about the Motorola Droid RAZR, a phone which we’ve seen and heard very little of compared to the Nexus Prime. He says that both phones are on hand at Verizon and that between the two of them, the Samsung Nexus Prime wins out on the strength of its 720p screen and brand-spankin-new Ice Cream Sandwich software. In the RAZR’s favor it’s “very fast, smooth, and has a great battery life.” According to the informant, the RAZR will be the phone that the DROID BIONIC should have been. Naturally, the informant doesn’t mention the possible FCC sighting of the Nexus Prime with AT&T and T-Mobile radio bands.

Android fans (and bloggers) were shocked Friday morning then the much-anticipated Samsung Unbox Event had been moved from CTIA to a time and place unknown. This was even more disappointing so soon after Samsung’s teaser video, which showed us a first glimpse of what is almost certainly the Nexus Prime / Galaxy Nexus. It was later confirmed that the event has been delayed due to the death of Steve Jobs. The rumor mill has been working double shifts to keep up with all the leaks and speculation ever since. A possible reschedule date of October 27th was rumored, but that seems less and less likely as time goes on.
