Google lists its ‘Best Apps of 2012′ on Play

Best Apps of 2012

Google has put its "Best Apps of 2012" list up on Google Play today, with many familiar names. There are "best of" lists in each of the different categories on the Play Store, but the app listings always draw a lot of attention. It's always interesting to see what apps Google employees themselves are using and calling the "best" on the platform. The list is headlined by many apps that you yourself may rattle off as the best apps, such as Pinterest, Zappos and Evernote.

All but one of these apps are free, so why don't you go check out a few of Google's top picks? You can get the full list of all 12 apps at the source link below.

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 multi-window update now live

T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2

Here's your reminder that the promised software update for T-Mobile's Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is now available. The 73-megabyte update brings the following improvements:

  • New multi-window feature
  • Resolves Exchange calendar events not appearing on device Calendar
  • Resolves issues with being unable to swipe through Gmail messages

If you've yet to see the multi-window thing, check out our full video of it from a couple months ago. It's definitely worth tapping a couple buttons and updating your phone — which … erm, is pretty easy to do anyway.

Google Play Books updated with new ‘Read Aloud’ feature and pinch to zoom

Android Central

Google Play Books has just had an update pushed out into the Play Store, that brings with it among other features a new 'Read Aloud' function. The new feature allows for the listening of most flowing text books, and while it seems to do a pretty good job, it's not going to replace audiobooks anytime soon. Imagine sitting down to listen to your sat-nav read you a book and you've pretty much got the right idea. Don't take our word for it though, check out the sample after the break.

Sprint shuts down ‘Upgrade Now’ program … for now

Sprint Upgrade Now program

Sprint today confirmed to Android Central that its Upgrade Now program, which would let you pay a little extra to get upgrade pricing a little early, is "currently now unavailable." The internal memo adds "until further notice," which seems a bit ominous until you read the line that notes it's "temporarily discontinued." Sprint's e-mail to us also says to "check back later to see if the program has been reinstated," giving us another reason to believe this is just temporary.

Thanks, anon!
