HEX IT – Truly challenging puzzle game for iPad

HEX IT: Awesome Puzzle Game for iPad
Developer: Patryk Otreba
Price: $0.99   Download

Cyber Dog today is pleased to announce the release of HEX IT 1.0 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. HEX IT is 30 levels of increasing complexity of pattern making. A reward system of stars means you can challenge yourself to complete the level in as few moves as possible. Play in the Time Attack Mode for an even greater challenge of your mind and reflexes.

The goal of the game is deceptively simple: Twist hexagons to arrange colours in a specific pattern. The “peep” displays at the bottom of the screen details the appropriate pattern. Strategy and a bit of madness are necessary to arrange all of the gems correctly.

Two special gems are included in the game to tantalize and confound even the greatest gamers. The ‘skull’ gem is actually a time bomb that must be defused in a set number of moves. Defuse the ‘skull’ by surrounding it with six of the same colour gems. ‘Skull’ gems are further complicated by the fact you cannot move them, only the surrounding gems. Real strategy and skill is necessary to defuse these ticking time bombs. The ‘Chain’ gem locks hexagons into a set position, rendering them unmoveable.

Make it through the first 20 levels is difficult enough, the last 10 are almost impossible. You will be amazed at the difficulty of HEX IT. HEX IT is not responsible for your insomnia while trying to best any of the last ten levels.

Feature Highlights:
* 30 exciting levels of puzzles will keep you playing for hours
* Time Attack Mode for each level
* Rating Mode
* Special gems like skull, chain and multi-colour which creates a great unique gameplay
* Easy controls
* Beautiful High Resolution Retina Display Graphics
* Very addictive gameplay
* Great replay ability
* Pleasant music
* More Levels and Updates to come

With HEX IT you will:
* Speed up your problem solving ability
* Boost your intelligence and confidence
* Develop concentration, focus and reflex

Healthy Wealthy nWise Debuts On iPad To Bolster New Year Resolutions

Healthy Wealthy nWise
Developer: THE METIS GROUP, L. L. C.
Price: free   Download

As part of their continuing growth strategy and their drive to empower and improve , Healthy Wealthy nWise Magazine releases the iPad version of their publication today. The online mag brings the experience and insight of dozens of leading growth and development experts during a time of year when people refocus their priorities and strengthen their resolve to improve their well-being.

The digital-only magazine centers on helping to create success, freedom, balance and passion for life – issues that are on the forefront of everyone’s mind at the start of the New Year.

According to USA.gov 12 of the 14 most persistent resolutions are commitments to improving health, improving financial situation and increasing personal growth. These include simple promises to get fit, eat better, lose weight and moderate drinking and smoking. The list also includes vows to manage stress, to pursue traveling and to get better financial footing through savings, debt management or a better job, usually complemented by getting a better education.

Healthy Wealthy nWise provides a wealth of expert advice and instruction on health and wellness, careers and business, money and finance, spirituality and mind science and personal empowerment. The magazine does this through the contributions of industry giants such as Dr. Stephen R. Covey, Jack Canfield, Les Brown, Eckhart Tolle, Larry Winget and dozens of other “Real Life Legends”.

Readers gain specialized insight into actually keeping their promises for the new year, as well as comprehension of what keeps us from meeting our yearly goals. In addition to its 160,000 online subscribers, this year the magazine will bring its powerful messages to iPad users as well. It’s an emerging market that increasingly favors the magazine’s simple, uncluttered, intuitive format.

The health and fitness focus by itself already has sizeable potential in the app market. Some of the best New Year’s apps this year according to Mashable, Yahoo! and iMore are centered on fitness. That’s because half of resolutions this year (again) are centered on watching your weight and getting more exercise.

But the personal development content is where the magazine really shines. According to Prof. Peter Herman of the University of Toronto most New Year’s resolutions fail because of unrealistic goals and the failure to “calibrate your ambitions to your abilities.”

Another reason is that people often bite off more than they can chew. Resolutions are often focused on drastic changes and thus set up for drastic failures. Dr. Stephen Covey, author of 7 Habits of Highly Effective People emphasizes starting small. Setting small achievable goals leads to successes. Says Dr. Covey, “You can build on this with other small promises and enlarge your victory until you establish healthy habits for your life.”

Healthy Wealthy nWise provides consistent, valuable inspiration and direction on how to create realistic goals and build those small successes into healthy habits. Even more, readers are educated by industry experts on how to break other barriers to success and keep the momentum of improving their personal development – part of the 10-year mission of this digital publication.

Ric Thompson, co-founder and CMO of Healthy Wealthy nWise explains enthusiastically about the magazine’s app debut. “New Year’s is about fresh starts but it’s also about new perspectives. Being able to see things more clearly allows us to re-evaluate what we truly want in life. Sometimes that’s all we need to find success. We hope that bringing the magazine to the iPad will help many more people find that success too.”

Over 100 million iPad users will have a choice of purchasing single issues of Healthy Wealthy nWise or taking a monthly subscription. The magazine offers a free first issue for monthly subscriptions, available through the iTunes store.

Healthy Wealthy nWise 2.7.5 is free and available worldwide through the App Store in the Lifestyle category.

First Look: OUYA Developer Console unboxing [PICS]

This image has no alt text

Visit OUYAboards.com for the largest independent community of OUYA enthusiasts!

The OUYA has a lot riding on it. As the world’s first Android-powered gaming console, it seems countless “me too” consoles are just now coming out of the woodwork. Still, it’s hard to compete with the sheer amount of backing the OUYA has received from big name game publishers around the world.

As official backers (and believers) of the console since its inception, Phandroid and GameFans are two of the first in world to get our hands on the recently shipped OUYA Developer Console — an early dev kit sent to developers so they can ensure their games are compatible with the console (and gamepad) at launch. Here’s what we found inside the little black box.

Console

The completely black box had a slick black engraving of “OUYA DEVS” with the nice message of “Thanks for believing…” and the company URL. The first thing you see when opening the box is a thank you letter, leaving you with a warm and fuzzy feeling of being part of something at the ground level.

The console itself is teeny tiny, made of plastic, but still pretty darn solid. Much of that sturdy feel comes from the cubed shape and although the “I can see your guts” clearness detracts a bit from the sturdy feel, it’s a pretty cool design for a developer exclusive.

On the top right you’ll notice four obviously placed screws: that’s so  you can easily crack it open and mod the hardware yourself. Oh yeah OUYA… that’s that’s the Android spirit!

Gamepad

The look and feel of the controller matched that of the console: plastic but sturdy, aethetically pleasing, and seemingly functional. All the buttons felt like that off top quality console, except for the power button on the console itself. The touchscreen is an interesting… touch, but we’re holding off judgement until it’s time to play some games and use some apps that leverage it’s capabilities.

The look of the buttons is nothing short of completely sweet and it pulls together the look, feel, and sound of the OUYA name. The battery covers, located in the handles, were a bit hard to pull off but after that first time cracking them open it was no problemo. There won’t be much to share until games start launching but we’re going to plug this bad boy in and start rocking away.

We’ll be back soon with more… but in the meantime:

Review: LogMote Protect Your Passwords from Keylogging and Phishing Scams

logmote – passwords, simple & secure
Developer: LOGMOTE
Price: free   Download

I recently read a line in Kevin Mitnick’s “The Art of Deception: Controlling the Human Element of Security” about how we are our own worst security and that basically we trust everyone too much. Leaving a door unlocked when running to the store, storing passwords on Post-It notes and believing in the better good of people. So naturally, when I was asked to check out LogMote, a free utility app that turns your iOS device into a remote for your PC, I was intrigued.  More importantly, I was interested in learning just how safe it was to compile all the goods into one place … your iPhone.

The LogMote website promises to store your most prized login and password combos with its “patented revolutionary way” to manage this info securely so you can navigate your favorite websites faster. In short, LogMote seems fairly legit. The power is in your hands since even if you loose your iPhone and some criminal hacker picks it up they’re going to have one heck of a time accessing your info. This is because your iPhone is linked to your desktop or laptop. It’s a unique connection and without it, it’s useless. Just to show you how much I trust LogMote, I added my personal PayPal information, which has access to my bank account. Yikes.

If you find yourself typing in passwords daily, LogMote is the essential safe and secure account info saver for easy access to any of your most trusted Websites. Seriously, it’s awesome.  (more…)

Finish reading “LogMote Protect Your Passwords from Keylogging and Phishing Scams” and see screenshots for the app on AppCraver.com.

Interactive and fun, children can listen to a story read with a familiar voice, while finding hidden, animated surprises on every page. This delightful story chronicles the delivery of a new baby to a family of storks.

A long time ago it was thought that babies were brought to people by white storks that carried them in their beaks. That’s right my friend, believe it or not! Those babies don’t come straight out from the bellies of their mothers, but are sent to the door wrapped inside a towel! It just happened that a couple of storks had a baby delivered to them and look: they became Mom and Dad themselves and now they are on a parental leave.  (more…)

Ouya Gaming Console Already Given An In-Depth Overview, Courtesy Of An Excited Developer

Although the game-changing Ouya gaming console has just been shipped out to select developers, we are already getting an idea of how the console looks and feels thanks to an in-depth overview and description by an excited developer. The overview highlights every aspect of the console as well, detailing everything from what is included in the box to highlighting the setup process and user interface. The setup process is straightforward and simple like any other Android device, while the UI looks to be pretty basic and easy to navigate through as well. There were no games to try out at this time, though the excited developer was bold enough to sideload a port of Deadly Dungeons which although could use some work to increase controller functionality, worked like a charm and gave us a taste of the console’s potential.

I know you’re all itching to get a taste of what the Ouya console is all about, so just head on down to the source link and check out one of the many videos to give yourselves an idea of what the console is really all about.

Review: Asva The Monkey HD is a Brain-Teasing Adventure Game with Over 90 Different Levels

Asva The Monkey HD
Developer: SLEKRITH FILM Co., Ltd.
Price: $1.99   Download

Asva the Monkey HD is the first full feature game by the developers at Osja studios, and, boy, is it a home run. The app is a puzzle adventure game that requires logic and problem solving skills and is, not only a brain teasing game, but, a lot of fun as well.

Asva the Monkey HD revolves around a cute little monkey named Asva, who loves to eat watermelon and lie around in the trees. One day, Asva the Monkey sees a magical light, and when he goes to inspect it, is transported into another world. The game then starts with you controlling Asva and helping him solve puzzles to collect crystals in order to return him home.

The game is quite simple once you get the hang of it. The rules of Asva the Monkey HD are that you must retrieve a crystal by walking on many platforms that disappear once you move to the next one. So, you cannot move backwards, and must use every platform in the level before you can retrieve the crystal and move on. The intrigue of the game is figuring out the correct sequence of movements in order to jump on all the platforms that lead to the crystal without repeating yourself. (more…)

Ouya Android Gaming Console Up Close And Personal

Last week the dev console versions of Ouya began shipping out to Kickstarter investors. This Android gaming console which is expected to ship out in March for $99 is quite unique since it is a crowd funded project which has its roots over at Kickstarter. A total of 1,200 units were shipped out and some game developers have already given their initial impressions on the device.

ouya dev console

The dev console version isn’t the final product yet and is a limited edition run aimed at developers.  The contents of the package includes

  • Jet-black OUYA Devs package — “Thanks for believing”
  • Official Developer Welcome Letter
  • One frosted translucent OUYA Dev Console
  • A Micro-USB port, for your computer-hooking-up pleasure.
  • Two frosted translucent OUYA Dev Controllers
  • Batteries included
  • HDMI cable
  • Micro-USB cable
  • Power adapter

The console and controllers are frosted translucent which will set it apart from the final version.

The overall UI is clean and easy to navigate. No games are present in this version although a web browser is installed. The browser seemed to be pretty fast and loaded up a low quality YouTube video well. Playing an HD video on the other hand takes a long time to load and buffering issues were encountered.

Game developer CodeGameZombies made an in depth review of the Ouya over at YouTube. They tested out their own game called Deadly Dungeons which they were able to play on the console even if the game was designed for touch based devices. One minor problems encountered was that the controller didn’t support some of the game mechanics. The Android menu button was not present while the touchpad on the controller was not responsive enough. Since this is still a dev console we’re pretty sure the company will iron out this minor issues once the consumer version will be released.
