Spacetime Studios In Giving Mood, Updates Arcane Legends MMORPG

‘Tis the season for giving. Arcane Legends’ developer is feeling a bit generous and wants to give owners of the recently released MMORPG an update just in time for all of that holiday downtime. We aren’t talking about just slapping some Santa hats on the characters either. To begin with, players will now see a level-cap of 21. Players will also be greeted with five new dungeons to explore, a new loot chest to unlock above level 16, and new achievements along with a weapons-type shakeup for each class. There are also numerous holiday-themed goodies but we’ll leave that for you to explore and find. You may want to jump on it though as the holiday-themed goodies end – you guessed it – when the holidays wind down.

Arcane Legends Give-a-Way, come snag some valuable Platinum!

We all know that Spacetime Studios put out another mega successful MMORPG game just yesterday, Arcane Legends. They consistently deliver top quality games that are free to play always and forever. That doesn’t mean that you couldn’t spend some hard earned dollars through in app purchases. The one item that you could and should pick up when you get the chance is Platinum. This is the currency that holds the most value in the game. It allows you to buy huge amounts of gold, change your pets name, revive yourself with 15 seconds of immunity during battle, pick up special chests full of goodies and even pick up some high end companion pets.

You can earn valuable Platinum in a variety of ways such as partaking in special offers, liking them on Facebook and various other means that take some time. It is much easier and less time consuming to just go ahead and drop  a little cash. It really can go a long way if you plan it out and pay attention to what you are buying.

In an effort to help you get a leg up in the games, and because we love our readers support so much, we have something special for the first 100 people who can follow directions. If you comment below with your character’s name and your current character level, for instance I am Fien and am at level 15. Along with fill out the very easy to use form below, we will be able to offer you $10 in Platinum. That equates to 74 pieces. That can easily help you in a bind. Personally I would say grab yourself 25,000 in gold for 25 Platinum and then grab one of the higher ranked companions for 50 Platinum. Of course how you spend your money is all up to you.

In an effort to show your appreciation for the offer, be sure to like Spacetime Studios Arcane Legends Facebook page and =1 and circle them on their Google+ Page too. I know they will appreciate it and so will we. Who knows, maybe they will have some other specials appearing on those pages. Never hurts to stay informed.

So what are you waiting for. Comment below with your character’s name and current level, then fill out the nifty little form below. Give us a few days to get the list over to Spacetime so they can get your Platinum all set up. Look forward to running some dungeons with you all. Don’t forget to add Fien, Mikeyness and Pacoman to your friends list in the game. I, Fien, tend to toss out lots of weapons, armor and other things to passer byers and to friends.

If you still don’t have the game but want some Platinum, then you better hurry up and get it installed and create your character. Just click or scan the QR code below to get started. Don’t forget, it can be found on the Chrome Web Store too.

Arcane Legends review

Arcane Legends recently enjoyed a soft launch in Canada and Australia, bringing a fresh, colorful fantasy MMORPG to Android. The developer, Spacetime Studios, has a lot of experience in freemium mobile massively multiplayer online games, having kicked off the trend with Pocket Legends way back when, and since released other themed games such as Star Legends and Dark Legends. I’ve dabbled in those previously, but let me say right off the bat that Arcane Legends blows the others out of the water.

Curiosity – What’s Inside the Cube now on Android

There’s been an awfully large amount of fuss surrounding the development of indie title Curiosity – What’s Inside the Cube, thanks to it being the latest production from famed UK developer Peter Molyneux.

People also love the concept, which is that it’s a sort of MMORPG social game, in which players join together to chip away at an absolutely enormous cube, stripping it down layer by layer to work out what, if anything, lies at its core – and only the person who chips away the final chunk will get to see it.

Curiosity was supposed to launch tomorrow, but the iOS version arrived this morning. The Android code has now hit the Play Store and can be downloaded here. It’s free. Everyone’s going to be talking about it so you probably should get on with it and do your bit.

Featured Play Store Review: Hands on with Angry Heroes Online [MMORPG - Arcade & Action]

Angry Heroes Online is a brand new MMORPG from Artibus that blends comic-style art and humor. In this world of fantasy, you will create your own character, deal with evil and clumsy bosses, go on exciting quests, play mini games, and fight other online players.

When creating your character, you have your choice of three different races: humans, elves, and orcs, You can dress him or her up anyway you wish and purchase protective gear and weapons. This is where things get interesting  and comical because the first weapon I used was a plunger, and it wasn’t too shabby because I won with it. As to the armor, again it’s not going be quite what you expect. Cardboard armor and paper bag masks usually don’t get the job done, but in Angry Heroes it does.

In order to level up, you will need to go on quests and fight to the death in the arena. Both of these circumstances will also yield you coins to buy more armor, weapons, potions, and skills such as how well you attack, your agility, luck, health, and defenses. Probably the best way to earn coins is by guarding. This is something you can do while you sleep or when you are at work or school. You can really rack up some coins to better your position in the hierarchy. You also have your own personal mansion, which can be built up to make you stronger. For example, the tower allows you to add more slots for your inventory, building up the stable reduces the time you spend on quests, building walls increases your defense, building your road will allow you to earn more coins per fight, and building up your landscape increases your chance to avoid battles. It just a matter of having the right amount of coins to increase these areas.

Speaking of battles, you can attack anyone online, but you can also be attacked. The only way you can escape attacks is by building up your road or by guarding. All fights are in the arena and if you want to attack someone, you can check out the character first and see how strong they are. You can search by weaker, even, or stronger opponents. Obviously you will earn more if you fight and defeat stronger opponents. The fighting is probably the only negative in this game because it’s automated. You don’t have any control, but on the other hand, casual gamers will like this because it simplifies things and isn’t so daunting.

Probably the most desirable type of currency is shrooms. You have to reach level 7 to even get into the shroom cave. Like coins, they can be used to buy items, but they can also allow you to travel in time and skip quests as well as give you more energy allowing you to fight more often. You can still earn some shrooms before level 7, but it will be tough.

This is all just the tip of the iceberg as there is so much to this game, but at the same time it doesn’t feel so daunting. You can play at your own pace and it’s simple enough for the casual gamer. Angry Heroes is Free so check out my hands on video, as well as their trailer video, and hit one of the download links to get started. As always, let me know what you think.

Key Features:

  • The game is a MMORPG fantasy genre, featuring premium comic-style art awesome visual effects.
  • An unique balance system allows thousands of players to challenge each other online.
  • Innovative in-game economy, that balances the strong and weak players in a single game world.
  • Over 300 types of cool items which can be used in millions of unique combinations.

Guild Wars 2 takes lead in 10 European countries

Ten days since its official full release, the no-subscription MMORPG, Guild Wars 2 is already dominating the official All Formats charts, occupying the No.1 spot in ten European countries including the Netherlands, UK, Finland, Sweden, Spain, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Belgium and France in this week’s countdown.

ArenaNet’s MMO sequel to Guild Wars has just posted the second largest debut for a non-Warcraft MMO PC title next to Star Wars: The Old Republic. It is also the first PC-only release game to reach All Formats’ top spot since Football Manager 2011, which took the lead in November of 2010.

Meanwhile, All Formats’ No. 2 post is currently occupied by Sleeping Dogs, followed by Super Mario Bros 2 at No. 3. London 2012 is doing well, as it retains its rank at No. 4 and LEGO Batman 2 also moves up to No. 5.

Darksiders 2 however, is showing some bad signs lately. So far, the title is posting a 71 percent drop on its second week, falling down to No. 6.

At No. 7 is Madden NFL13, a new entry to the chart, followed by Transformers: Fall of Cybertron at No. 8, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier at No. 9 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 at No. 10.

Other games appearing in the All Formats’ chart this week include Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games, Dead Island Goty Edition, Batman: Arkham City, Tales of Graces F, The Amazing Spider-Man, Lego Harry Potter: Years 5-7, FIFA 12, BattleField 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations.

Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet is glad to know their games have won the hearts of the European players as manifested by this latest achievement.

“Our games have always been well-received in Europe, but this level of enthusiasm is both awesome and humbling,” O’Brien said.

Anet’s president further stressed that this attainment excites the whole team, stirring them to keep up the responsibility they have to all GW2 players. According to him, this is the reason behind their recent move to limit sales of the game. Nevertheless, he assured to rectify this matter, sooner or later.

Despite various issues that showed up since the head-start launch, ArenaNet’s Guild Wars 2 has proven its worth to be regarded among the finest MMO PC titles ever created.

Topping the official All Formats charts in Europe and the millions of purchase with the Collector’s Edition box upon its full release are mere patents that Guild Wars 2 is indeed, prevalent in today’s world of massively multiplayer online games.

HeroCraft brings The Tiny Bang Story to all Android devices. Come get this amazing casual Puzzler

Gaming on Android, like any other platform, has a wide variety of styles available. Everything from FPS, Defense, MMORPG, and movie based games. There is literally everything under the sun. We all love games. HeroCraft creates quite a few games that many of you have spent countless hours playing, like Farm Frenzy, Majesty and Treasures of Montezuma 2. They are all great casual games and an easy way to kill a short bus ride or a long flight. Heck, even while sitting at the DMV, although I tend to stick to bloody games when I am there.

HeroCraft has just released another new casual puzzle game to the Play Store, entitled The Tiny Bang Story. Apparently it has been around for quite some time on the PC and is extremely popular and well-loved. It was also a Sony exclusive for quite a while too. The first set of images and screenshots reminded me of Cosmic Osmo from way back in my grade school days. Seriously, the little planet and spaceship on top of the house. Totally a Cosmic Osmo redo, but way better looking.

The Tiny Bang Story places you on Tiny Planet. It was recently devastated by an asteroid strike. Your mission will be to help rebuild the planet and restore it to what it once was. The story line is set across five distinctly different chapters with over 30 challenging brain teasers. No in-game text leaves you free to roam and free to discover the magic and puzzles that await you. A nice touch is that everything you see is all hand drawn and done up by a computer. Check out a few more sceenshots and a short video of the game below.

Looks pretty incredible and interactive. The game is suitable for all ages and we are willing to bet even the most advanced gamer will find some in this one. If you are interested in checking it out then feel free to click or scan the QR code below and have at it. Let us know what you think of it.

Blizzard Says No World of Warcraft Free to Play Beyond Level 20, Could Possibly Come to Mobile Devices?

A lot of us Tech Guru’s also happen to play World of Warcraft due to how the fun the game actually is. It’s undisputed that that Blizzard is indeed the King of the MMORPG realm with it’s widely successful and popular game, World of Warcraft (WoW). Although the game first went live quite a few years ago, it still remains at the top as the most played MMO with a impressive amount of players all around the world. The MMO giant has also released a numerous amount of expansions for World of Warcraft with the latest expansion called Mists of Pandaria.

Like other MMORPG’s, World of Warcraft has found it very difficult and challenging to keep their subscribers paying and happy. I often think this is due to the lack of new and innovative content they put out as opposed to what they were doing when they released their first expansion, the Burning Crusade. As a second though, games do get old and I personally feel that World of Warcraft is beginning to pass its time after hearing that they recently had lost a approximate 1 million subscribers to the game. This could also be due to the hype of Guild Wars 2 and the upcoming RIFT expansion, which happen to be two other very popular and hyped MMORPG’s.

Blizzard has actually been trying to cut their losses by luring more players into the MMO. They’ve done this by releasing a free to play starter version of the game. The goal of the starter version is to get players hooked on World of Warcraft and it’s immersive environment. Thus having these “lured” in players to pay to advance their characters well beyond the level of twenty.

World of Warcraft producer, John Lagrave, had recently told CVG that by allowing newcomers to play the game for free until level 20 gives the consumer “a good sense of what our game is.” That said, some industry watchers are no wondering aloud as to whether or not the game should become free to play above level twenty.

“You know, we looked at it lots, we looked at whether Level 20 would give you a good sense of what our game is, and we think it does,” said Lagrave. “There’s also a lot of things in the game that are special that we want to reserve for our paying customers.”

It should also be noted that the World of Warcraft competitor, Star Wars: The Old Republic (created by the widely known developer, Bioware) had recently went entirely free to play after having a massive subscriber loss. As of this moment, Blizzard does not have any plans to expand into the free to play business model, but I personally have no doubt that they are prepared for it. Surely there are at least some ideas on the table in case anything out of the ordinary happens. At least, that’s what a smart company would do, I think. However, Lagrave did note and acknowledge that Blizzard had “slid some of the pay-four features in the first 20 levels” of the game. To me, that sounds like they are testing the waters of the Free to Play model in case they find themselves forced into moving into this model. I also have an idea that they might just be testing the waters due to the upcoming release of Guild Wars 2. The Guild Wars series is widely known and popular, so there’s no doubt that Blizzard will be seeing a subscriber loss after that game comes out. Not to mention that Guild Wars 2 does offer some innovative ideas in the MMO industry along with some really cool Player vs Player features. That said, there is no doubt that numerous World of Warcraft players are very much looking forward to seeing the launch of Guild Wars 2. Whether or not players will have a permanent move to Guild Wars 2, I don’t know.

What’s interesting is that earlier this year, Blizzard had mentioned that they were looking into getting their game on the iPhone. I’m no programming genius (I would love to be one though) but that sounds extremely difficult and it seems like a payment system coming off the iPhone could potentially be very dangerous with the jailbreaking and such. I’m not sure how that all would work out, but it does sound fairly interesting. I wonder if they continued to move that way, if that would encourage a Free to Play business model on the iPhone? Again, that would bring some payment security issues and questions up that I think Apple just can’t handle right now. If they were to bring it to Android on the other hand, using the new Google Wallet feature might be a way to make things work. Again, I’m no expert programmer, and this is just a thought off of an idea Blizzard said they wanted to explore. I think we can all agree that it would be a fairly interesting concept. I also think that they might even gain a huge subscriber influx with how many people are replacing their PC’s with smartphones and tablets.

I know that World of Warcraft on a mobile device would be quite a large step for the game, but it is very well possible that we could see it within the next couple of years. Mainly due to the popularity of the mobile industry, it’s no surprise that Blizzard Entertainment would be interested in putting their game on the mobile market with how much popularity and casual gamers that haven’t been marketed to just yet. While I could be entirely wrong, I really do think that we could see World of Warcraft on mobile devices within the next year or so.

Either way, with many MMO’s heading towards the Free to Play business model, I can’t believe they aren’t even “thinking” about the idea of switching over their business model.

That said, is anyone upset to see that World of Warcraft isn’t headed for the Free to Play business model anytime soon? Let us know in the comments below!

Plants vs Zombies Sequel Has Been Announced by PopCap Games

By now, everyone should know what Plants vs Zombies is, I mean, how can you not? It’s been a huge hit across multiple platforms and has even been integrated into the widely popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft with their Cataclysm expansion. PopCap Games has said that a sequel to the hugely successful title is on its way. Currently, its slated for release by late Sprint of 2013, so there’s a bit of a wait. No matter though, with all of the games coming out in the next couple months it’ll feel like a breeze. Android wasn’t specifically mentioned, in fact, they didn’t mention any type of platform, but due to the popularity there is no doubt we’ll be seeing it on multiple platforms including Android.

From a unknown spokesperson, this is what we know about the new game so far:

The sequel to Plants vs. Zombies is expected to launch by late spring 2013, and will include a bevy of new features, settings, and situations, designed to delight the franchise’s tens of millions of fans around the world. No other details of the highly anticipated new installment in the franchise are available at this time, beyond the following comments from some of the game’s denizens.

“Spring is crullest curlie ungood time, and plantz grow dull roots,” noted an unidentified spokesperson. “So, we are meating you for brainz at yore house. No worry to skedule schedlue plan… we’re freee anytime. We’ll find you.”

“There was a time we relished a bracing, hearty blend of zombies, in the morning,” said Sonny F. Lower, a representative of the Flora Forever Foundation. “But first, a brisk shower and some strategic pruning are required. Tomorrow is near!”

I really like PopCap games’ work, and this really does sound like some fantastic news for Plants vs Zombies fans all over the world, but before making a sequel, I honestly think that they need to be updating their existing applications to work on newer devices. I really think that they would earn a lot more revenue and a larger fanbase if they focused on that more. The photo above is the original Plants vs Zombies and is evidence that they really haven’t optimized the game completely.

As a community, I think everyone would just like for the original game to work on newer phones that are less than a year old. The game is widely known and has a pretty big fanbase, thus by not fixing some of these bugs and optimizing the layout correctly, I think that they are losing quite a few players due to the terrible resolution on some devices.

That said, I still think they should continue on with the sequel, they may just want to dump Plants vs Zombies and head full force onto the sequel. Hopefully by doing that they will take more focus into making sure the sequel is optimized for newer devices and will continue to be optimized for newer devices. Still, I think we all want to see a few updates to the original game though.

Any thoughts on a new Plants vs Zombies sequel? Anyone looking forward to it?

Google Play Store Now Offers In-App Subscription Payments

This image has no alt text

Google is adding yet another way for developers to earn consistent cash flow by introducing new in-app subscription payments to the Google Play Store. Developers now have the option to bill users monthly or annually for access to their apps and content. Of course the first though that comes to mind are MMORPG’s, giving access to new areas and levels, but this could be applied to other types of apps — magazines or newspapers, for instance. Glu Mobile’s Frontline Commando is one of the first apps to take advantage of this new billing option and their CEO, Niccolo de Masi, had this to share:

“We’re using Google Play subscriptions to offer consumers a compelling value and a single currency which they can use across Glu’s most popular titles. We’re excited to bring these capabilities to our Android users and we believe that Google Play subscriptions will fuel further growth in our business.”

What’s more, Google has also provided a web-based API for developers to verify a user’s subscription status in order to access web content. That means if you subscribe to an app through the Google Play Store, a developer could also grant access to their website (again, magazines come to mind). The subscriptions are all managed through the Google Play Store and are available right now for any device currently running Google Play Store versions 3.5 and above (and if you’re not, you can download it here). Android devs, get started via the link below.

Dark Legends Is A Vampire-Themed MMORPG For Android That Never, Ever Sparkles

dltinySpacetime Studios, creator of hit game Pocket Legends, has released a new MMO for those of you who want to role play on the go: Dark Legends. In this vampire-themed game, you play as a demon of the night on the run as the world of humans has suddenly figured out that vampires are real. Apparently, in this world, smashing trucks, killing wildlife, and large-scale battles with wolves will inevitably end up on YouTube. Yes, what I’m saying is this game is more believable than Twilight*.

While vampire purists may still dislike some elements of the story (these vampires have superhuman speed and strength for example, but then who doesn’t these days?), there’s plenty of bloody human-hunting to go around.

Official Android Police t-shirts are now on sale, with over 25 designs to call yours.

Sega plans Android release for MMORPG Phantasy Star Online 2

Android gaming has finally come into its own, and major publishers are starting to take notice. This includes gaming legend Sega, which has graced Android with its Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball franchises, along with a few others. But they’re not anywhere near finished yet: Pocket Gamer reports that Sega’s online RPG franchise Phantasy Star Online will be heading to Android in late April as a closed beta. Phantasy Star Online 2 will be released for Windows, PlayStation Vita and iOS as well. The good news is that the game will be free (with in-app purchases). The bad news? It’s only confirmed for Japan so far.

Phantasy Star Online debuted as the Sega Dreamcast’s one and only online RPG way back in 2000. It was a more action-oriented update to the previous Phantasy Star games going back to 1987. (Think of them as Final Fantasy with spaceships.) The team-based multiplayer action won its share of fans even as the Dreamcast was dying, and expansions and sequels have remained popular on consoles and PCs ever since. Phantasy Star Online 2 will be the first game in the series with a major mobile component, though Android and iOS players won’t be able to play with PC and PS Vita players simultaneously.

There’s still no confirmation of the game being released outside of Japan, where final versions are expected for the PC in summer and mobile platforms this winter. Sega says that the Android and iOS versions of the game will need significantly reduced graphics and character creation options, so presumably you can’t just sign off of the PC version and into the Android version. What are the odds of PSO2 coming to Europe or North America? Hard  to say – while Sega is usually more than happy to spread their properties around, the Phantasy Star series has a pretty sizable culture gap that needs to be overcome, and higher than average localization costs.
