Phones4U say that pre-registrations for the Samsung Galaxy S 4 now 40% greater than Galaxy S III
One thing you can’t argue about is the success Samsung has enjoyed with the Galaxy S and Note line. Each newer version has always exceeded the results of the previous version, and it doesn’t look like that will change with the Galaxy S 4. One UK retailer, Phones4U, says that pre-registrations are going through the roof. In fact, they are seeing a 40% increase over what they experienced with the Galaxy S III, and it has only been 48 hours since they opened pre-registrations.
“The anticipation surrounding the next Samsung Galaxy has been astounding and it has already received the most pre-registrations as Phones 4U of any other smartphone launch in 2013,” said Scott Hooton, Chief Commercial Officer at Phones 4U. He also went on to say that it could be the “biggest selling smartphone of 2013.”
It doesn’t seem limited to Phones4U as EE is seeing some action. ”The interest we’ve received from consumers and businesses has almost reached fever-pitch levels,” said Paul Jevons, Director of Products and Devices at EE.

British carrier, retailer remind us they’ll sell the Galaxy S4
In case you were wondering, yes, Three UK and Phones4U will sell the Samsung Galaxy S4 Next Galaxy handset. As was the case last year, carriers and retailers are hopping aboard the Galaxy hype train with pre-launch pages allowing customers to register interest.
EE is playing its cards a little closer to its chest by merely tweeting one of Samsung's promotional posts.
Honestly, though, we'd be amazed if the Galaxy S4 wasn't available across every major UK network and retailer on launch day. That's the way things tend to roll out with any major handset in the UK.
Sit tight. We'll know more about the Galaxy S4 and when it'll be launching around the world after Samsung's NYC event on Thursday evening.

Sony Xperia Z to be publically demoed at UK retailer ahead of release

Ever since the 5-inch Sony Xperia Z debuted back in Las Vegas at CES, a lot of folks have been eager to get their hands on one and try it out. That includes certain members of the AC staff that didn't make the trip to Vegas. Thankfully — in the UK at least — there's a way to play with the Xperia Z before its general release thanks to a high street retailer.
Starting tomorrow, Feb 15, Phones4U will be displaying demo units of the Xperia Z at more than 300 of their retail locations for eager consumers to try before they think about parting with their hard earned. The Xperia Z will then be available at the retailer starting Feb 28 and will be available free on a two-year contract starting at £36. Additionally, the first 1000 pre-orders will receive a pair of Sony MDR-1R headphones which themselves retail at Sony for £299.
I know where I'm headed tomorrow now, and if you happen to do the same in the coming days, be sure to jump into the forums and let us know what you think. Full press release can be found after the break.

Here's a quick breakdown of what each Xperia Z launch partner is offering –
Phones4U to launch own virtual mobile network using EE’s infrastructure

British phone retailer Phones4U has announced it's to get into the network operator game through a new virtual network operated on EE's infrastructure. The new "LIFE Mobile" network is scheduled to launch this March, with 2G and 3G services being offered at first, followed by 4G LTE options later in the year. EE is, of course, currently the only operator to offer 4G services to British consumers.
Phones4U has not yet revealed details of pricing on the new service provider, but says it'll offer "variety of tariffs and services" with a "broad appeal" to consumers.
According to today's press release, the deal with Phones4U brings EE's total number of MVNO partners up to 25. Phones4U's biggest domestic rival, the Carphone Warehouse, already operates its own virtual network, Talkmobile, through a partnership with Vodafone UK.
Phones4U Confirms It Will Release The Sony Xperia Z In March
Well— it certainly didn’t take very long for us to find out about when we have an idea of when that sexy new Sony Xperia Z would be available to order. UK retailer Phones4U has announced that residents in the UK will be able to order the phone from March 1st. In addition, Phones4U will be offering select customers the option to pre-order the device in order to ensure that they will be able to secure a device– just in case well you know— it sells out and all like other devices. There’s no word on how much the device will cost as of now, but we’re pretty sure it will more than likely cost a pretty penny…

Sony Xperia Z heading to three UK carriers, Phones4U releasing in March

Following the Sony press conference at CES 2013, the announcement of the Xperia Z, the next question to ask is — when and where can I get it? Sony is the number 2 Android smartphone OEM in the UK, after Samsung, so we had no doubts that we'd be seeing it receive a British launch. The good news is that the device itself isn't a carrier exclusive.
O2, Vodafone and Three have all released statements of their intent to carry the new 5 inch, 1080p flagship smartphone from Sony. Dates are somewhat lacking, as is any indication of price. But, we do know that O2 will be carrying an exclusive purple version of the Xperia Z, along with the black version we saw yesterday. Vodafone intends to carry the Xperia Z "as soon as it is released in the UK," while Three simply says "in the not too distant future."
High Street retailer Phones4U is a little more accurate with a release date though. In a press release issued by the chain, they announce their intentions to launch the handset on March 1 in store, with pre-registration beginning immediately on their website. That press release can be found after the break.
Phones4U offering Google Play gift cards with Galaxy phone purchases

Today brings further indications that Google Play gift cards may be about to hit stores in the UK, as a recent Phones4U promotional offers a free £20 gift card code for customers purchasing a Galaxy S3, S3 Mini or Note 2. The offer is available via a Phones4U promotional page, where owners of these phones can claim their code by entering their name, contact details and IMEI. According to P4U's terms, the promotion is good until Mar. 15.
While Google missed the holiday window for getting Google Play gift cards out into British customers' hands, the card redemption page has been live in the UK for several weeks now. Only problem is the cards themselves have been unavailable so far, something which may be changing with the emergence of promotions like this.
If you've seen Google Play gift cards hiding out anywhere else in the UK, be sure to let us know in the comments.

Major UK networks confirm they’ll carry BlackBerry 10 wares in early 2013
While our immediate attention is focused on the fast approaching tech-fest that is CES, let us not forget another important event taking place in January — the eagerly awaited launch of BlackBerry 10. We don’t know if its success will equal RIM’s expectations, but just this morning all major UK carriers emailed us confirmation they’ll be stocking BB10 handsets. Three and EE (Orange and T-Mobile included) announced availability next year, but nothing more specific; O2 told us BB10 gear will land on its network “in early 2013″; and retailer Phones4u, which covers all the carriers, specified a Q1 2013 window. Vodafone implied that it’ll be offering handsets immediately after launch, but we’ve been in contact the network’s PR folks just to confirm that’s true and not confused wording. We’ll update you with their response as soon as we hear back.

Samsung ATIV S for Vodafone UK goes up for pre-order at Phones4U with a December launch
Brits looking to score Samsung’s ATIV S flagship on Vodafone can start forming an orderly queue. UK reseller Phones4U is offering pre-orders for the Windows Phone 8 darling to those willing to sign a two-year contract, giving it away for free on a £33 ($52) plan with 600 minutes, unlimited text, 500MB of cellular data and 2GB on WiFi. Pay a pound more per month ($54) as well as £30 for the device ($48) and the subscription jumps to both unlimited minutes as well as 2GB of cellular use. Unfortunately, the wait for this biggest-screened Windows Phone may be a long one — while Samsung has only confirmed a December launch for the ATIV S in the UK, Phones4U has the smartphone reaching customers on December 21st. If that’s accurate, we’d make sure there’s some leftover wrapping paper in case the ATIV S becomes a gift, even if it’s to yourself.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini up for pre-order at Phones4U, on-contract prices revealed

UK retailer Phones4U has placed the newly-announced Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini up for pre-order on its site, along with the first details of on-contract pricing. The phone, which will come in white and blue, will be sold on by P4U on Vodafone, Orange and O2, and will be available for free on contracts starting at £25 per month. That'll get you a 24-month contract on Vodafone, with 300 minutes, unlimited texts and 250MB. If you're after a little more data, O2 offers 500MB for £27 per month. Cheaper deals are available, but you'll pay an up-front fee for the phone.
SIM-free prices were revealed yesterday — in the UK, the Galaxy S3 Mini will set you back just short of £300 if purchased by itself.
The Galaxy S3 Mini shares its design with its big brother, but the internal components have been downgraded to fit with the phone's smaller form factor and lower price tag. It's powered by a 1GHz dual-core CPU, and packs 8 or 16GB of storage, expandable via microSD card. Around the back, there's a 5MP autofocus camera. It does at least come with the latest version of Android — 4.1 Jelly Bean — along with Samsung's latest TouchWiz Nature UX.
Anyone tempted by the S3 Mini given what we now know about pricing? Shout out in the comments.
