Prada phone by LG 3.0 launches on T-Mobile UK

Android Central

It's been available off-contract for a while, but now T-Mobile UK has launched the awkwardly-named Prada phone by LG 3.0 at subsidized prices. The Prada phone, which we first saw at its launch party in late December, features mid to high-end LG internals and a Prada-designed chassis and user interface.

Tmo UK is offering the phone for free on its 24-month, £36-per-month "Full Monty" contract, which includes unlimited texts, unlimited data and 2000 minutes. If you want to spend a little less, it's also available on a number of £31-per-month deals with unlimited texts, data allowances between 100 and 1500MB, and 300-900 minutes.

Prada phone by LG 3.0 review

LG and Prada have a history of collaboration; their debut phone arrived around the same time as the first iPhone, sporting a black and white display, a petite footprint and a 2-megapixel camera. Next, the Prada II brandished a sliding QWERTY keyboard, a 5-megapixel camera and arrived at a time when WiFi functionality was a big enough deal to note on the press release. Four years on, the pair have rolled their sleeves and attempted to reclaim a place among the top devices, with classy aesthetics backed up by a strong hardware and attractively customized software. This is the team’s first attempt at an Android device, and on paper it’s got some respectable specifications, including a 4.3-inch NOVA Plus display, a dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel camera sensor that appears to be the same one found on LG’s 2011 flagship models. Granted, LG probably wasn’t ever planning to include its latest HD IPS screen on a phone where branding was dominated by the other partner, but this smartphone still wants to appeal beyond its good looks.

It’s now appeared in Korea and Western Europe and we were fortunate enough to borrow one from UK retailer Phones 4U for review. Are people willing to stump up the top-tier smartphone cash for a device with last year’s specifications? Do people want a Prada phone? Might a fashionista be more likely to plump for an iPhone? Or is it too popular? And what about that monochrome skin? We’ll talk it all out after the break.

Ed Norton And Daria Werbowy To Be Faces For LG Prada

Despite the picture we chose to mark this monumentous occasion, our favorite hometown actor Ed Norton will work alongside Daria Werbowy to be the faces for the LG Prada.  Norton hails from my hometown of Columbia Maryland a town created by his late grandfather James Rouse.

Academy Award nominated actor Ed Norton and Canadian Model Daria Werbowy will be featured in print ads, billboards and commercials for the designer line inspired LG Prada, a powerful Android smartphone available overseas.

More after the break
LG’s President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Dr. John Seok Park said: “LG is delighted to have these talented and successful individuals on board to help launch this smartphone. They embody the very essence of the PRADA phone by LG 3.0, combining style with substance, as well as bringing to life this outstanding smartphone.”

Norton added: “It was a pleasure collaborating with PRADA and LG, both Global brands with impeccable reputations for being the most innovative and respected in their fields.”

The LG Prada features a unique black and white UI. It has a 4.3 inch screen with a Nova display and a pixel density of 217ppi. There is a TI OMAP 4430 single core 1ghz processor powering this device. There’s an 8MP camera on the back and 1.3 on the front. The Prada will feature stylish outer designs as well as the unique UI.

The phone is available in LG’s S.Korea home. No word on US availability.

LG taps actor Edward Norton, model Daria Werbowy to rep PRADA phone by LG 3.0

LG Prada 3.0

A high-end fasion phone needs high-end spokespersons, no? LG has scored actor Edward Norton (The People vs. Larry Flynt, American History X, Fight Club, The Incredible Hulk) and model Daria Werbowy to be the faces of the PRADA phone by LG 3.0.

It's a good-looking phone, as you've no-doubt seen from our hands-on with it in London last year, and now it's got a couple of good-looking (and talented, natch) faces to go with it. Said LG in a news release:

Both individuals embody the core values behind the PRADA phone by LG 3.0 – stylish looks and smart functionality. Both are stars who have excelled in their fields and represent the ethos of style and substance; Norton is an Academy Award-nominated actor, whilst Werbowy holds the record for opening and closing the most catwalk shows in one season, as well as being one of the top earning models of recent years.

The PRADA 3.0 is the latest collaboration between the fasion name and the Korean manufacturer. The smartphone features a 4.3-inch NOVA display at 480×800 resolution, a dual-core TI OMAP 4430 processor at 1GHz, 8GB of on-board storage, an 8MP camera with autofocus and a unique black-and-white user interface.

That doesn't do much for bringing the PRADA 3.0 to the United States anytime soon, but it's now available in the UK for around £430 ($670).

LG Prada 3.0 launching at Phones 4U tomorrow

Mobile specialist Phones4U has struck some sort of DEAL to allow it to sell the new LG Prada phone slightly before everyone else, with the fancy slimline Android model launching through the retailer from tomorrow.

There’s some pretty decent deals up on the phone’s pre-order page too, letting you get a Prada 3.0 on an O2 contract for £21.50 a month with an £89 upfront fee. That SIM comes with 100 calling minutes, 500 SMS messages and 500MB of mobile data.

We are still oddly attracted to it and are composing a review request email at this very moment. Although we never get much joy from P4U or LG, so don’t hold your breath. Here’s the thing:

Prada Phone by LG 3.0 arriving on T-Mobile UK next month

Brits dripping in Prada won’t have to wait much longer to get their smartphone fix. The awkwardly-named Prada Phone by LG 3.0 is looking to set sail from its native Korea — where it’s already launched — and will be available on T-Mobile, half of the Everything Everywhere duo, some time in February. Sidling up to the UK carrier’s coming soon page, the salient selling points appear to be that Prada styling and LG’s 4.3-inch NOVA plus display. That subtle monochromatic skinning of the Gingerbread OS won’t hurt its chances either. No word on a precise launch date or price, but we expect to see a review model pretty soon — once we’re dressed well enough to be seen with it.

Dapper dandies take note: T-Mobile UK has updated their coming soon page to now list the Prada Phone by LG 3.0 for a launch sometime in February. The carrier touts the handset’s “stunning Prada style” and a 4.3-inch ultra-bright NOVA display but offers little in the way of specifics regarding release date and pricing. The latest Prada Phone has already brought its touch of class to market in Korea.

LG PRADA 3.0 coming to the UK in February

Clove is on a roll this week! After announcing that it would start carrying the white Galaxy Nexus and an expanded 32GB model starting in February, the slinky new PRADA phone by LG 3.0 has been confirmed for the UK retailer. The Android-powered fashion phone will go on sale in early February at a price of £429.99, including Value Added Tax. That’s about $533/$666 in United States dollars, before and after taxes. The PRADA phone will be unlocked and usable on all United Kingdom wireless carriers.

PRADA and LG announced the phone back in December at a London event, showing off the sexy slate design to tech and fashion press alike. The 4.3-inch 800×480 screen is the largest yet on an official PRADA device, and surprisingly, the internals don’t dissapoint either. A 1Ghz dual-core OMAP processor is paired to a full gigabyte of memory, which should let Android 2.3 run quickly and smoothly on the device. An 8 megapixel 1080p camera and 1.3 megapixel front shooter covers the shutterbugs, while 8GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot covers the media consumers out there. Perhaps the most interesting part of the PRADA phone is its user interface, a heavily customized version of Gingerbread that looks pretty fantastic from a visual perspective.

The PRADA 3.0 is already on sale in LG’s native South Korea, and a wider European release is scheduled for later this year. We haven’t heard anything about the phone coming to North America. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, but the protracted process of carrier approval and subsidy means that it’ll probably be months before it makes its way here, if ever. At least there’s an FCC filing to keep up the hopes of western fashionistas.

PRADA phone by LG 3.0 coming to the UK in early February, yours for £429.99

Android Central

It's already available in parts of Asia, and now we have details of when the PRADA phone by LG 3.0 will be launching in the UK, and for how much. On its official blog, online retailer Clove says it'll begin shipping the device from the week commencing Feb. 6 (that's going to be a busy week), and if you want one, the SIM-free price is a surprisingly reasonable £429.99.

As we said said in our hands-on feature, the PRADA 3.0 is a well-designed handset with decent specs, however it's tied to a quirky monochrome UI that we think may be something of a polarizing feature. To find out more about the phone, check out our write-up, or take a look at our hands-on video after the break.

LG Prada Phone 3.0 Now Available In Korea – Hitting Europe In January

This image has no alt text

No, the image you see above is not in black in white — it’s actually in full color. That’s LG’s newest smartphone, the “Prada Phone by LG.” First thing I’m sure you’ve noticed the device is its minimalist “Prada themed” black and white UI, a clear departure from the manufacturer’s pseudo TouchWiz found on devices like the Nitro HD. Because, you know… nothing says “class” like black and white.

The device has just launched in its homeland of South Korea and besides its sexy good looks, the LG Prada Phone 3.0 features a 4.3-inch 800×480 IPS display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 8MP rear/1.3MP front facing cameras, 8GB of internal memory and runs on Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread. LG did mention that the device would see an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade sometime during Q2 of next year.

While only available in Korea, the device is expected to hit other regions like Europe sometime in January. The LG Prada Phone 3.0 retails for 899,800 KRW which translates roughly to about $776 — but that’s the price you pay for luxury. I’d be willing to bet this will be the only phone Bond uses in his next action blockbuster. Full press release can be found below.

PRADA PHONE BY LG 3.0 BEGINS WORLDWIDE ROLLOUT
Much Awaited Designer Smartphone Arrives in South Korea Today, Europe and Asia in January

Seoul, 28 December 2011: LG Electronics (LG) made its highly anticipated PRADA phone by LG 3.0 available to the public today in South Korea. The phone is now available to Korean customers and scheduled for the release in most European countries and other parts of Asia in January.

The phone, its existence announced only last month in Seoul during the joint signing ceremony, was unveiled for the first time at a showcase event in London two weeks ago. The stylish new device has been attracting significant attention for being the only smartphone with premium branding on the market currently.

The PRADA phone by LG 3.0 is the third handset from the PRADA and LG collaboration following the highly successful PRADA phone by LG 1.0 and 2.0 phones. The latest offering continues in the same tradition combining PRADA’s trademark chic simplicity with LG’s leading technology, including one of the brightest 800-nit NOVA display and a PRADA themed UI for truly unique mobile experience.

Following PRADA’s renowned design philosophy, the handset features a full glossy touchscreen on the front and PRADA’s signature Saffiano pattern on the back. Impressively thin at only 8.5mm, minimal hardkeys and a classic black finish complete the phone’s sleek look.

With 1.0GHz Dual-Core/Dual Channel architecture, the PRADA phone by LG 3.0 is as effective as it is stylish. The phone runs on Android Gingerbread OS with an update to Android Ice Cream Sandwich scheduled for the second quarter of 2012.

For more details on this unique collaboration, please visit the official site of PRADA Phone by LG 3.0 at www.pradaphonebylg3.com.

PRADA phone by LG 3.0 now available in South Korea; Europe, rest of Asia in January

PRADA phone by LG 3.0

The obtusely named PRADA phone by LG 3.0 is now available in South Korea, the manufacturer announced today. I'll be released in most European nations and in other parts of January.

As you'll recall from our hands-on with the phone earlier this month, the PRADA phone by LG 3.0 (seriously, we're just calling it PRADA 3.0 from here on out) is running a unique UI on top of Android 2.3 Gingerbread, has a 4.3-inch display at 480×800 resolution and 800 nits of brightness, 8GB of onboard storage, a 1GHz processor and a 1540 mAh battery.

We've got our hands-on video and the full press release after the break.

LG says Ice Cream Sandwich updates will start no earlier than April 2012, second push in Q3

LG Optimus 2X

It's been about a month since LG first announced which of its phones would be getting Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. And it's going to be at least three more months or so before any of them actually see it.

LG on its Facebook page today announced that the Optimus LTE, Prada Phone by LG 3.0, Optimus 2X, Optimus Sol, myTouch Q and Eclipse would start to see ICS upgrades in the second quarter of 2012 — that's as early as April, as late as June. And coming in the third quarter — that's sometime between July and September – the Optimus 3D, Optimus Black, Optimus Big, Optimus Q2 and Optimus EX will start to see their updates.

That LG has committed to updates is great. That it's going to take a minimum of six months for a number of its current phones to even begin to see official updates is far less great.

Prada Phone by LG dated for “February 2012″

Phone specialist Carphone Warehouse has just stuck up a holding page for the new LG Prada Android phone, giving it a rather distant launch date of “February 2012″. Given that the phone will arrive running Android 2.3 and February is also when the manufacturers announce their newest high-spec models, that’s rather unfortunate timing for LG.

Although we still love the look of the thing.

PRADA Phone 3.0 by LG hands-on

LG and PRADA have teamed up again for what they are officially calling PRADA Phone by LG 3.0 and we have some hands-on video of the new fashionable smartphone. During an event in London today we learned the full details and were able to fondle the phone for a brief moment and from initial impressions it’s very sleek, thin, lightweight, and sexy.

The PRADA Phone was shown off earlier this morning and has been leaked a few times in the recent past being called the Prada K2. Today we put on our favorite wool scarf and attended the official event to enjoy this new and fancy 4.3″ Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone. Here’s our video to get you started.

PRADA Phone by LG 3.0 hands-on

The PRADA 3.0 is obviously the 3rd device to carry the branding but this time around we have Android to liven things up. It’s tall, sleek, and slim but rocks some impressive specs and a brilliantly bright 4.3″ NOVA display — although sadly just 800 x 480 and no HD screen like the recently released LG Nitro HD.

Powered by Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread and a 1.0 GHz dual-core processor we also get 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage and a few powerful cameras to capture that perfect moment — or some nice shoes. Offering an 8 megapixel shooter on the back and 1.3 up front for video chat. The rear has a leather-like soft touch plastic backing that should hold up longer than genuine leather — but the idea did cross their minds. Performance is smooth and swift as you can see from the video although the custom interface changes are a bit odd to say the least.

The new PRADA is extremely thin and has a pretty blocky design, very similar to the recently released Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone. It does have a few neat features like the round power/wake button with an illuminating LED ring. We also have circular stereo speakers down on the bottom to keep things stylish.

LG has promised Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich updates for their lineup although this phone may be heading in a different direction, but we do expect an update at some point from LG and PRADA. Let us know what you think and enjoy a few photos below.

It wears its Prada branding on its sleeve, and the fashion label’s creative input has even gone so far as to affect the Android OS, with understated black and white themes papered over the cheerful — in comparison — Gingerbread interface. So how does it stand up? Is it just another brainless designer phone? You’ll have to read on to find out.

LG announces Prada Phone 3.0

LG’s just sent out a rather heavy-going statement on its partnership with fashion brand Prada, confirming, well, that it’s going to make another Prada phone. It also included a concept sketch of its Prada Phone 3.0 which, you may remember, was one of the concept renders featured in a massive LG leak ages ago.
