Motorola’s original DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX update is official, brings data enhancements

Motorola_Logo_From_DROID_RAZR_MAXX_HD_TA

Remember the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX’s soak test that went out on Monday? We now have the details on what it brings. Unfortunately, not much. To be exact, it adds just two enhancements. The first is a data bug that was occuring while roaming in Canada on Telus GSM and UMTS networks. And the other was yet another data bug that occurred when connected to an extended network in places like Alaska. A warning would appear; however, that has now been fixed. The update is named 98.72.165.XT912.Verizon.en.US in case you were wondering. Nothing else to see here, folks.

Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX maintenance release gets detailed

Droid RAZR HD

Roaming issues to be addressed by small update

Motorola has posted details about an update coming for the original Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX . While Motorola has already confirmed that these devices won't go past Android 4.1.2 it is obvious that this won't be KitKat, but it is still great to see. The update is set to fix some roaming issues that the device experienced in Canada as well as a bug fix for when you are roaming in extended networks, as well as a few other bug fixes as well.

Hopefully Motorola is able to push out the update quickly, and if all goes well in the initial testing get it out to everyone.  If you own one of these devices keep your eyes out for the update and be sure to let us know when you receive it.

Casio G’zOne Commando Receives Update from Verizon

GZONECommando

Verizon has been working on a few updates today. First with the original RAZR and RAZR MAXX; followed by the Incredible 4G LTE; and now the robust G’Zone Commando from Casio. As far as the update goes it doesn’t add much. In fact it takes away some bloatware. Besides the removal of the V Cast Music app, you’ll see better Push to Talk connectivity. That’s about it.

Original DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX Soak Test Happening, No It’s not KitKat

DROID_RAZR_jellybean_announcement

If you’re the owner of the original DROID RAZR or RAZR MAXX, an update should grace your devices here in the next week or two. A soak test is currently going out for each device. While some of Motorola’s older devices are slated to get KitKat, neither of the devices that kicked off Motorola’s new generations of RAZRs didn’t make the cut. As Motorola has made it clear on its web site, neither device will receive Android 4.4 and will stay on 4.1.2.

What we can expect from the update would be fixes for problematic bugs, boosts in mobile signal, and/or the addition of bloatware. As soon as Verizon drops official support documents with what exactly the update brings to the table, we’ll let you know. Usually once the soak test goes out, it’s a short matter of time before the update becomes official.

Verizon Makes The DROID Ultra And Maxx Official: Same Familiar Droids, With A Bunch Of New Stuff

1[13]

We’ve known for a while what Verizon was going to announce today, but the company just made it’s new Holy Trinity of Motorola Droids official: the Droid Ultra, Droid MAXX, and Droid Mini. As expected, all three are successors to last year’s Droid M, RAZR HD, and RAZR MAXX. While the Mini is basically in a league of its own, the Ultra and MAXX are kindred spirits, essentially only being separated by battery capacity and thickness.

Motorola: DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX Jelly Bean update rolling out today

Well that was fast. Earlier today some reports came flooding in that Motorola was finally sending out limited beta test builds of Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean for the original and aging DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX. Now just a few short hours later Motorola themselves have confirmed the real update will arrive starting today to all RAZR owners. It’s about time!

Screen Shot 2013-03-07 at 12.22.21 PM

So for those who’d rather not mess with downloading files and flashing things in their recovery, just hang out for a minute because the official update is rolling out in phases as of this afternoon.

Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx get updated to Android 4.1

Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx get updated to Android 41

Today is the day for Jelly Bean updates on older carrier-branded devices, apparently. In this round, it’s the Verizon-branded Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx that have the honor of being bestowed with Google Now, expanded notifications and the rest of everything Android 4.1 has to offer. The rollout will take place in phases, so don’t be terribly concerned if you don’t see the update showing up on your device right away. We haven’t had the chance to play with it yet, but soak tests seemed to indicate that much of the Droid-related bloatware has been removed in favor of several stock Google apps; if you get the update, let us know in the comments if this is the case.

Motorola makes the Droid RAZR/MAXX Jelly Bean OTA official

Droid RAZR

We had some pretty interesting information regarding a Jelly Bean soak test for the original Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX, and now Motorola has made the update official. The support page has just gone up indicating that the update will be rolling out in phases, as is usually the case. There's no specific note about the removal of the Motorola apps and being replaced by stock Google apps, but this looks to be the same update that we were seeing before.

It’s been a long time coming, but Motorola today officially announced that the Android 4.1 (aka Jelly Bean) update for the DROID RAZR and RAZR MAXX will be rolling out in phases soon. The update brings all the Android 4.1 trimmings you may have already come to know and love, like Google Now, enhanced rich notifications, and more.

RAZR_jellybean_announcement

This update is also supposedly heavily de-bloated in terms of Moto’s old don’t-call-it-BLUR software suite, with many apps having been replaced with their Google-made counterparts. Here’s Motorola’s detailed changelog:

New User Interface

  • Look and Feel: Updated colors, font, icons, and animations.

New Features

  • Google Now: Added feature that generates real-time notifications throughout the day with relevant, contextual information such as weather, traffic, calendar.

Custom ROMs for your Alltel RAZR MAXX are just a flash away

Razr Maxx

Verizon may take most of the headlines, but the Motorola RAZR MAXX (sans Droid) also made it's way to other carriers — like Alltel. We love seeing the smaller carriers getting great Android phones like the MAXX, but folks who want to run a custom ROM are usually out of luck when this happens. Not so this time.

Forum Moderator, Alltel subscriber, and Android hacker cole2kb has you covered. He has taken the most popular ICS and Jelly Bean custom ROMs for the Verizon version of the RAZR MAXX and ported them over to Alltel. Getting them installed is as easy as flashing the original ROM and a small patch from recovery. He's even figured out how to get MMS working, so you're set there.

This is why we love Android. Users getting their hands dirty to bring more options to the folks who want them. Thanks, Chris — and I'm sure plenty of folks on Alltel are thankful as well. Click the link below to get started.

Original Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX receiving Jelly Bean OTA update

Droid RAZR OTA Droid RAZR OTA 2

It's a Christmas Eve miracle! Seemingly out of nowhere, the original Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX are pulling down an OTA update to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. Several different users in our forums are reporting that their handsets are (often slowly) downloading a very large update, and being greeted with Jelly Bean goodness when they reboot. We don't have any official support documentation from Verizon yet, but it doesn't get much more official than updates currently being downloaded.

So are any of you seeing the update hit the notification bar of your RAZR or RAZR MAXX? Head to the forums and let us know.
