The HTC One Mini 2, aka HTC One M8 Mini, gets a leaked press render, confirms single rear Camera

HTC One Mini 2Despite multiple leaks over the last few months that have alluded to its existence, we’ve always known that HTC was going to follow up their new flagship, the HTC One M8, with a ‘mini’ version; these mini versions tend to be smaller, less powerful versions of the flagship device with the only significant similarity being their appearance. Rumours have intensified over the last few days about the appearance of the device which has culminated in the above press render which appears to show the HTC One M8 mini or, as it’s apparently going to be officially known as, the HTC One mini 2.

As you will notice, the device only has a single rear camera, unlike the One M8 which has the dual rear cameras; this is most likely a cost saving measure. You will also notice that HTC has retained the on-screen menu buttons (and that lovely little black bar at the bottom) and it looks like the device will also benefit from Sense 6.0. Rumoured hardware specifications for the device include a quad-core Snapdragon 400, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage, a 4.5-inch 1280×720 resolution display and Android 4.4; if those specs look familar, that would be because they are almost exactly the same as the specs for the 6-month-old Motorola Moto G. For HTC’s sake, I hope it’s priced similarly to the Moto G.

Would you be interested in a HTC One mini 2 if it turns out as the rumours say? Let us know what you think in the comments.

LG G3 specs tweaked in updated Sprint UA profile

LG_G_Flex_Back_Buttons_Camera_Lens_LG_Logo_TA

Specs of the LG G3 continue to trickle in, but the problem is there are so many prototypes, that it is hard to predict what direction LG is headed in.

The G3 already appeared in Sprint’s UA profile and a benchmark. It was believed to pack a 2460 x 1440 display, 3GB of RAM, 13MP rear camera, 2.1MP front-facing camera, and 32GB of storage. I won’t even mention the processor because there are so many that have been reported.

Now the latest UA profile from Sprint shows 2GB of RAM, a 16MP rear camera, and 2.4MP front-facing camera. It also shows a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor that is unlikely to be in the final product. We have seen benchmarks of the device with the Snapdragon 801, which seems more likely.

The G3 is rumored to be announced a month or two earlier this year, so I expect we will have a better handle on what the “real” specs are going to be very soon.

Vivo Xshot will have a 24 megapixel camera with OIS and f/1.8 aperture

Vivo Xshot

Vivo’s previously rumored Xshot has finally had its camera hardware revealed, and it looks pretty impressive at first glance. The Xshot will sport a Sony 24 megapixel rear camera along with a great f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization, plus dual LED flash. It will be capable of shooting 3D pictures as well as 4k video, and the dedicated camera button makes a return on the side of the device.

The front camera isn’t quite as nice, but it will reportedly have a 7.68 megapixel count, which is will arguably take the best selfies ever. There’s also rumored to be a 1080p screen and 3 GB of RAM, as well as a Snapdragon 801 CPU.

No word on an official release date, but Vivo will likely announce something in the coming weeks.

Ways to Fix the Camera Failed Problem in Samsung Galaxy S4

camera failed error in galaxy s4

A new question was sent to us at The Droid Guy Mailbag that reads,“I am having problems with my Galaxy S4 camera, particularly the one in front. I noticed the back camera works fine using different camera applications, but once I switch to the front camera, I get a ‘Camera Failed’ popup. Then, I can’t switch back to the rear camera anymore. Is there a way to fix this?”

Possible Ways to Fix the Camera Failed Problem in Samsung Galaxy S4

A comprehensive solution to this issue can be found in our previous article titled, Samsung Galaxy S3 Camera Failed Problem [How To Fix].” This will run you over with processes on how to solve the problem by clearing the camera and gallery app cache and data, performing a factory reset, and wiping the cache partition. Make sure that you perform these first before proceeding to the next solution.

Buggy Operating System Version

Another cause of the problem is a buggy operating system. If you just recently updated your Android version when you noticed the issue, it would likely mean that it is the update causing the trouble. You can either wait for an OTA update with a fix or install a more stable custom firmware to immediately fix the problem.

Hardware Issue

If everything fails, you might be looking at a hardware issue already. Ask a technician to examine your phone, particularly the wiring of the camera or the camera itself. Some users who have experienced the “Camera Failed” bug recounted that they were able to eliminate it by simply fixing the connection of their ribbon cables or by replacing the camera of their units.

Alcatel introduces Pop S series of budget-friendly LTE phones

After seeing Alcatel OneTouch announce a series of mid-range Idol phones and a lower-cost fitness-centric phone yesterday, a family of budget devices may not seem quite as… cool. Regardless, the company is pushing out a new trio of Pop smartphones known as “Pop S” (the ‘S’ stands for — you got it — speed) that throw in Cat 4 LTE connectivity while keeping down the price. First, there’s the Pop S7 (pictured above), which features a 5-inch qHD display as well as MediaTek’s new quad-core 1.3GHz LTE chip, Android 4.4 KitKat, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, a 5MP rear camera and VGA front-facing camera, microSD support and a 3,000mAh battery. It’ll come in two flavors of LTE, depending on where you live, and will be making its way to Europe and Asia first. The device will go for 189 euro ($260).

If you want something bigger, the S9 might be a better fit — it’s a 6-inch 720p handset with a 3,400mAh battery and comes in at 8.5mm thick. It features a quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm 8926 processor, 8MP rear camera, 2MP front-facing camera, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and 8GB internal storage (along with a microSD slot that takes up to 32GB). The device should launch in March in Europe and Asia, but we expect to see it on Tracfone in the US sometime in the second half of this year. All this can be yours for 219 euro ($300).

Lastly, there’s the Pop S3, which is a much more petite size and comes with a variety of swappable back covers in the box. The specs are pretty minimal in certain places, but impressive in others: 4-inch WVGA display, Android 4.3 and 2,000mAh battery aren’t nothing worth talking about, but it offers a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, the same high-speed LTE connectivity, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, a 5MP rear camera and VGA front-facing cam, 4GB internal storage and microSD that supports up to 32GB. This particular device should head to the UK sometime around May, and it’ll eventually make it to the US, we’re told. All in all, it’s a fairly impressive stack of phones that’ll bring solid speed to emerging markets and developing countries, but the big question will be if the price is right.

New image of the Sony Xperia G and its specifications leak

Sony_Xperia_G_Leak_01

Earlier this week, a photo of the unannounced Sony Xperia G alongside with the Xperia Z1 surfaced on Twitter. However, this time, ViziLeaks took it to twitter  yesterday to post an image of what appears to be the rear of the Xperia G as well as its specifications. The handset on the top appears to be the Xperia Z1.

According to the tweet, the Xperia G sports a 4.8 inch display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB internal storage, LTE connectivity with an 8MP rear camera which is situated in the center of the rear case. The tweet also mentions that it doesn’t have an IP rating so it means that the device might not be waterproof.

Sony might unveil the Xperia G at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) set to take place in Barcelona on February 24.

LG G Pro 2 camera to feature 4K video recording, HD slow motion, and ‘OIS Plus’

LG_Logo_01_TA_CES_2014

LG already announced that the LG G Pro 2 will be unveiled at Mobile World Congress, and for whatever reason they have released a little more info about the phone’s camera. The rear camera will be 13MP, while the front-facing will be 2.1MP.

The rear camera will come with what they are calling OIS Plus. OIS stands for Optical Image Stabilization, which helps you take much better pictures by removing the “shake”, but it also helps in lower light situations as well. OIS Plus will just do an even better job with the addition of an Electro Image System (EIS).

For those of you that already have or plan on buying an UHD TV, you will be happy to know that the G Pro 2 will shoot in UHD (3840 x 2160). You will also be able to shoot slow motion (1.4 speed) 1080p video. Lastly, they plan on offering some sort of Drama Shot of their own by combining 20 burst shots into one picture.

I still can’t figure out why LG isn’t calling this phone the G2 Pro, but it should make photography enthusiasts very happy.

Sony Xperia Z2 to sport 5.3-inch display and 23MP camera?

xperia-z2-back-cover-leak

Recently we reported that the upcoming Sony Xperia  Z2 will be unveiled at next month’s Mobile World Congress, along with a few specs. Today the back cover has been leaked along with slightly contrary specs.

First the cover. If you’re not a fan of glass backs, you will be happy to know that the Z1 won’t sport one. Of course, this pic could be from an early prototype, but assuming it’s close to the final design, it appears to be matte metallic or carbon fiber. It was also divulged that there will be 5 color options.

Now onto the specs. This report has the Z2 with a 5.3-inch display and a 23MP rear camera. It’s not too far off from the original report, but different nonetheless. The earlier report suggests a 5.2-inch display and a 20.7MP rear camera. No other specs were indicated with this leak, so we are still expecting a 2560 x 1440 display, 3GB of RAM, and a 3,700 mAh battery.

HTC Desire 400 Android Smartphone Quietly Announced

HTC has quietly announced a new midrange Android smartphone that belongs to the Desire family. The HTC Desire 400 is a dual-SIM device that sports a 4.3 inch display and will become available in certain regions around the world. This device got spotted on the Russian and Ukrainian sites of HTC however both sites have conflicting specifications.

htc desire 400

The Russian HTC site lists the device as having the following specifications.

  • 4.3″ display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels
  • 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor
  • 1 GB of RAM
  • 8 GB internal storage expandable via microSD
  • 8 MP rear camera with LED flash
  • 1/6 MP front camera

The Ukrainian HTC site on the other hand lists these specifications for the device.

  • 5 megapixel rear camera
  • VGA front camera
  • dual-core CPU

Both websites agree on the connectivity options that the device will come with as well as its software customizations such as BlinkFeed and Sense UI. There’s also a 1800 mAh battery that’s said to provide up to 12 hours of talk time on a 3G network.

The different specifications listed for this device might mean that it will be sold in different variants based on the region it is released in. The version listed by the Russian site does appear to have better specifications owing to its quad core processor and a much better rear camera rated at 8 MP. The Ukrainian version does not offer much with its dual core processor and 5 MP rear camera and VGA front camera.

There’s still no information as to when the HTC Desire 400 will be released or what the pricing will be. When it will be released there will be three color versions to choose from.

Nexus 5 camera samples and first impressions

Nexus 5 camera

A quick overview of the new Nexus's photographic capabilities

Google's Nexus smartphones don't have the best reputation when it comes to photography. The Galaxy Nexus's rear camera was a pretty big disappointment, and the Nexus 4's was little more than adequate, despite the introduction of new features like Photosphere. So will this year be any different? Google certainly seems to thinks so — the LG-built Nexus 5 is pitched as a device for capturing "the everyday and the epic," boasting a new HDR+ mode and optical image stabilization (OIS) while maintaining megapixel parity with the last-gen Nexus, with its 8MP rear shooter. It also boasts a larger 1/3.2-inch sensor and f/2.4 aperture.

But is it any good in the real world? Let's find out after the break.

Other carriers will receive Moto X camera update ‘soon’

Moto_X_Back_Camera_Lens_Motorola_Logo_TA
Yesterday we brought news that the T-Mobile Moto X received an update that included enhancements to its rear camera. Owners of the X on other carriers don’t have to feel left out for too long. Motorola Mobility’s VP for Product Management, Punit Soni, posted on his Google + account on Tuesday that the update should be “coming to other carriers soon.”

As a reminder, the T-Mobile update improves the quality of pictures taken, focuses on your subject faster while preventing unnecessary focusing, and quickens the time the phone takes to switch from the back to the front camera. In addition, a few bug fixes were included.

LG G2 Is Official: 5.2" Display, 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800 Processor, 2GB RAM, 13MP Rear Camera, Android 4.2.2

1

Like with most other devices, there has been no shortage of leaks and rumors surrounding LG’s latest flagship, the G2. But now, all the questions have been answered, rumors put to rest, and leaks are no longer necessary – LG just unveiled its newest powerhouse to the world.

1[5] 2

Just as previous rumors suggested, the G2 is filled to the brim with high-end specs that almost immediately make this the cream of the Android crop:

  • 5.2-inch 1080×1920 IPS display
  • 2.26GHz Snapdragon 800
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16/32GB storage options
  • 13MP rear shooter, 2.1MP front camera
  • Rear-facing power button and volume control (directly below camera) – long-pressing launches QuickMemo and the camera
  • Bottom-facing speakers
  • 3,000mAh battery
  • 138.5 x 70.9 x 8.9mm
  • Android 4.2.2

The G2 has the largest display that still fits in the “one hand use” category – thanks to the thin 2.65mm side bezel, it manages to keep the width to a mere 2.7 inches.

Evleaks Reveals Press Shot Of New Nexus 7 – SIM Slot, Dual-Speakers, Rear Camera, And Notification LED Present And Accounted For

BPu8PA0CYAAftD_The new Nexus 7 leaks just keep on coming. The venerable @evleaks has just posted a high-resolution press shot of the still-unannounced tablet. It matches up with previous leaks quite nicely.

BPu8PA0CYAAftD_

The image shows a device with big top and bottom bezels, a front notification light, and dual speakers on the back. The rear-facing camera is there, as is the sideways Nexus logo. Also, note the odd placement of the front-facing camera.

First Pictures and Video of New Nexus 7 Reveal More Specs

Just a few hours after we reported a new leak that revealed the prices of the New Nexus 7 and ran another rumor that the new tablet may be on the shelves as early as next week, the folks at Android Central have had their hands on the actual tablet and have been kind enough to post the pictures and even a video online.

New Nexus 7 Back

What is clear from these images is that the new nexus 7 tablet has an update look and just as rumored, it comes with a rear camera, something that its predecessor did not have.  These are not the official images of the finished product, evident with the stickers visible on the back, but just a prototype of the actual tablet.  The device pictured is manufactured by Nexus and is labeled ME571K_PR1_SKU2.  There will be more than one version of Nexus 7 – 16 GB and 32 GB versions and possibly Wi-Fi and 3G versions.

The specs of the tablet in the images include a 7 inch screen as expected, a 1.2 megapixels front camera made by LITEONMOBILE and a 5 megapixels rear camera, made by Chicony.  The rear camera is located on the same corner as the 3.5 mm headphone jack.  Earlier rumors indicated that the new Nexus 7 would come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor but it seems the tablet will have the older quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor.  Interestingly, the pictured device boasts of a whopping 4 GB RAM, though this could be a mistake and the RAM may be only 2 GB.  As expected, the tablet will be available in 16 and 32 GB storage options.

The new Nexus 7 could also have a new addition to the sound system – dual speakers – one on the top “upper” and bottom “lower” ends of the back of the tablet.  The volume rocker and power button are located on the same position as with the current nexus and the microUSB port is at the bottom center of the device.

Another clearance to our speculation is the news that the tablet has Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board, but then, this is a prototype and it wouldn’t be too surprising if the retail versions came with Android 4.2.2.  Let us know what you think and check out more images of the tablet and a YouTube video on Android Central.

LG Optimus G2 alleged specifications leak showing rear buttons [UPDATE]

We’ve been hearing about the LG Optimus G2 flagship handset for awhile now, with the leaks slowly picking up speed as we narrow in on LG’s upcoming August 7th event, during which it is expected the smartphone will be unveiled. Both alleged images of the handset have surfaced, as well as specs, with another round appearing on the Greek site Techblog.gr.

LG_LOGO_NEW

As we’ve heard before, the bezel is said to be very small, which you can see in the image above, rumored to be of the upcoming handset. Likewise, word has it the LG Optimus G2 will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor alongside 2GB of RAM. All of this is consistent with past leaks, and includes word of a rumored 13-megapixel rear camera.

There’s said to be optical image stabilization with the camera, which probably means we’ll find a nice camera app to go along with it. Other information provided by the sources includes an IPS display size of 5.2-inches, making it a tad more svelte than the current generation of the handset. The resolution is said to be 423ppi at full HD 1920 x 1080p.

And then there’ the buttons on the phone, which are said to have been re-positioned over the current generation to the rear of the handset near the bottom. Word has it there are three total: the power button, volume rocker, and a +/- key that performs various functions like zooming. This is due to the narrow margins around the display, giving more room for screen real estate.

Back in March, a benchmark surfaced that is believed to possibly be of the Optimus G2 due to the handset – the LG D801 – being listed as “g2_tmo_us”, which also hints at a T-Mobile offering. That particular benchmark showed a Snapdragon 800, but had the display at 1794 x 1080. We’ll know for sure in a few weeks, so stay tuned!

Update: Another leak has surfaced over at RBMen indicating that the Optimus G2 will have 3GB of RAM instead of 2GB.

Xperia Honami camera features modded for available handsets

We’ve seen leaks of the Xperia handset codenamed “Honami” a few times over the last few weeks, including some images said to be of the device that surfaced earlier today. Among the rumored specs is a 20MP rear camera and snazzy camera features that include Timeshift, Info-Eye, and more. One industrious developer has worked up a mod with these features for a few Xperia devices, so you can try them out now.

HonamiCamera_1

The work was done by “krabappel2548″ over at the xda-developers forum, where the mod was posted. With it, owners of Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, and Xperia Tablet Z devices can use the Honami’s new camera features, which you can see listed in the screenshot above. Among them is Timeshift, AR effects, Photo Effect, Info-Eye, Sweep Panorama, and Superior Auto.

You can check out the full writeup over at the forum, but in summary installation involves flashing the package in recovery mode, then clearing the cache and camera apps data in Settings. In order to use the mod, aside from having one of the three devices, you’ll need a stock 4.2.2 rom and a deodexed rom.

In case you’ve missed it, the Xperia Honami is said to feature a 5-inch 1080p Full HD display featuring Sony’s BRAVIA technology. Inside, there’s a rumored Qualcomm 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor alongside 2GB of RAM. As we mentioned the rear camera is put at 20MP with a 1/1.6-inch sensor and Xenon flash.

The battery, if the rumored specs are true, will be substantial enough to handle the 5-inch display and processing hardware at 2700 to 3000mAh. Likewise, the handset is said to be water and dust resistant at IP57 certified. Software is said to be Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, and the entire device measures in with a profile of 10mm.

New ASUS-made Nexus tablet drops by the FCC

Nexus tablet

Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core CPU, 5MP rear camera and 4G LTE

Rumors of a second-generation, ASUS-built Nexus 7 tablet have been circulating for some time, so it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise to see such a device passing by the FCC today.  The ASUS "K009" tablet is listed on the FCC's online repository, along with the "Nexus" name listed under "brand" in a certification document. The same document specifies a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro and 4,000mAh battery, a 5-megapixel rear camera and 4G LTE radios. (Additional FCC data points to T-Mobile and AT&T frequencies.)

The inclusion of LTE connectivity as well as a rear camera is interesting to see, considering the original Nexus 7 featured only a front-facing camera, and at launch was a Wifi-only product. We wouldn't speculate as to exactly when this new Nexus tablet might see a retail release, but FCC certification hopefully means it's not too far off.

Apple lists brand new 16Gb iPod Touch model on its online store, will sport 4 inch retina display without a rear camera

Today, Apple has listed a new 16GB iPod touch on its online store. Earlier when the 5th generation model went for sale, many were disappointed that the company did not provide a 16GB version for the same. Users had only two options, 32GB and 64GB which was naturally priced higher than previous 16Gb models.

ipod touch 16gb

However, this new iPod touch seems to be the solution for users looking for a great music player at a limited budget. One can buy the device directly from the online store for $229. As you might have guessed, this is a slightly scaled down version of the 5th generation model. So you won’t be getting a rear camera and you would have to be happy with the 1.2MP HD Facetime camera.

The website states that the device will ship within 24 hours and if you want to pick it up from an Apple retail store, you can do so starting May 31st.

The specs of the device are given below:

  • Dual Core A5 processor
  • 4 inch retina display with multi-touch IPS technology
  • 326 PPI and a resolution of 1136×640
  • No Rear Camera
  •  1.2MP Facetime Front camera with 720p HD video support (30 frames per second)
  • 40 hours of music and 8 hours of video playback
  • Bluetooth 4.0 and Wifi 802.11 a/b/g/n/
  • Silver and Black color options

The specs look the same as previous iPod models with the exception of the rear camera.

But would you buy the new 16GB iPod Touch without the 5 MP iSight rear camera?
