Manos: The Hands Of Fate Android Game Review

What is possibly the worst film ever made which was released in 1966 has been made into a game and is now available for the Android platform. Manos: The Hands Of Fate is a game based on the movie of the same title and is developed by FreakZone Games. While the movie has earned the distinction of being the worst one ever made the game on the other hand is a different story as it uses a platform type gameplay that’s comparable to Super Mario Brothers.

Manos The Hands Of Fate

Manos: The Hands of Fate can now be downloaded over at Google Play for $2.49. You will need a device running on at least Android 2.2 as well as 18 MB of storage space.

In the movie, a family is searching for Valley Lodge and happens to pass by a house tended by a caretaker named Torgo. The game follows the same premise as you control Mike whose car breaks down while with his family on a vacation. He then seeks shelter in Valley Lodge which is taken care of by Torgo “while the master is way”.

The first time you start the game you will immediately notice that it uses the same graphics as the old NES games. The developers said that they are paying homage to the great old school games that were popular in the 80’s and 90’s.

Your character, Mike, will be armed with a pistol to help you defeat the enemies. You’ll meet all sorts of them some of which are easy to kill while some are a little bit harder. You will need to explore the place which is quite large, go out into the desert and discover a dark temple.

The controls are pretty simple with the left side of the screen having the forward and back buttons while the right side of the screen has the two action buttons.

Overall this is a good game to play and is a great homage to the worst movie ever made as well as the best classic games.

Android Quick App: Wind-up Knight

Wind-up Knight

Stop what you're doing and download Wind-up Knight for Android. Wait. Read this first. Then stop what you're doing and download Wind-up Knight, which has been gaining kudos and buzz since its initial release last week.

Wind-up Knight is a side-scroller that's reminscient of Super Mario Brothers — you'll be collecting coins while dispatching creatures, all in the name of saving a princess. But it's not a mere two-dimensional side-scroller — this sucker's got depth. And the graphics, while simple, also don't overpower the gameplay, a problem we've seen in other games. The controls are simple as well. Your character runs on his own (hint: You'll need to go left sometimes), and you're left iwth jumping and rolling and attacking.

Wind-up Knight is a free game, but you'll need to collect weapons and armor along the way. And you can upgrade as quickly as you want, thanks to in-app purchasing. Want a bad-ass sword without having to save up currency? You can buy 10,000 Rote for a $9.99US. Of course, that's the trick, right? You'll likely end up spending far more within the game than you would if you paid $1.99, or $2.99 — heck, we'd probably easily go $5 for Wind-up Knight — up front. But on the other hand, with 50 levels and great gameplay, you're getting your money's worth.

One downside of all that in-app purchasing, though, is that you can't switch devices. If you upgrade on a tablet, you won't have those weapons and armor on a phone, unless you repurchase them. (Hopefully Google does something about that at some point.

Anyhoo, we've distracted you long enough. Hit up the download links and check out our hands-on video after the break.

Update: Ooo. So after a few levels, you have the one-time option to upgrade to the full version at a discounted $3.99. We're all for in-app purchases, but the upselling is starting to be a bit much here.

Google IO edition Galaxy Tab 10.1 caught on video demonstrating Super Mario awesomeness!

If you happen to be the proud owner of a Google I/O edition Galaxy Tab 10.1 you’ll be interested to know that it makes interesting use of the stock Bluetooth stack. And as such, you can do some pretty cool things with it.

One of those things is the ability to load up an emulator app and start playing some Super Mario Brothers — with a wireless controller. Of course, some other tablets are capable of this as well — more specifically the Motorola Xoom. When paired with the exact same tools it can have the same end result — but it’s not a Google I/O edition Galaxy Tab 10.1.

PS: If you were more interested in where you may obtain the live wallpaper running in the background than you were in running Super Mario Brothers, we got you covered there as well. it’s actually from ASUS EeePad Transformer and can be picked up from this thread over at XDA.

Thanks for sending this in, Murray!

Nesoid: NES On your Android

Most people would agree that there’s a bit of a shortage of decent games for Android devices.  Well, that’s exactly why I decided to feature the Nesoid application. Play all the original Nintendo console games, including classics like Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario Brothers.

Nesoid is an emulator providing the facility to play NES games but none are supplied with it so you’ll need to download them from somewhere.

Google for “NES ROMS” and you’ll find plenty of sites offering them up for free.

If you download Roms, just like any other media you download, you have to own a real copy if you are downloading a copy online.

You can store tons of roms right on your SD Card. You can also save games mid-play, which can be very useful for playing on the go, and also a feature that you wouldn’t of had the luxury on the original console.

If you have a physical QWERTY keyboard than you will use that to control the game. If your android is entirely touch screen than it will have touch screen controls right on the screen. For me, owning a Droid X, I can really enjoy playing it with the size of my screen!

There are different apps that allow you to play other consoles such as SNES, SEGA, Gameboy, etc… I will Feature these at a later date, so make sure to follow and check back!
