LG places Samsung look-alike billboards in Times Square
While much of the tech press is focused on Samsung and their upcoming Galaxy S4 announcement, LG has made a rather surprising move to try and steal some of that attention. Basically, they have placed some billboard advertisements in Times Square. But more to the point, they have placed some Samsung look-alike billboards in Times Square.

You can get a look at the billboards in the above image, and while this seems to be a rather bold move on the part of LG, we do have to question one bit. Those looking fast may not necessarily see the LG part at first. In other words, the billboards look very much alike at first (quick) glance.
The left sides are both white while the right sides are both black. Not to mention the bit about them all having a big number 4 in the center. The real difference here is that the LG boards are stating that the LG Optimus G is here, whereas Samsung is still asking folks to be ready for the next Galaxy.
Anyway, we are not sure this will have any affect on which smartphone someone decides to buy, but we do have to commend LG for taking such a bold stance. With that, the time to remember is 7PM EST as that is when “The Next Galaxy” event will kick off in Times Square.

LG sticks it to Samsung with Times Square billboard

This one made us chuckle. Samsung has been busy taking over Times Square in the lead up to their big Samsung Galaxy S4 announcement to take place at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. With either a sense of humor or desperation, LG has taken the opportunity to post their own billboard in the busy NYC district.
The sign reads “LG Optimus G is here 4 you now,” an obvious play on Samsung’s “Be Ready 4 the Next Galaxy.” The LG ad is even stylized to look like Samsung’s. We’re not sure it will help the company sell any more phones, but it’s nice to see the maker of the Optimus series step it up a bit and put the screws to their homeland competitor. Well played, LG. Well played.

LG Trolls Samsung With Well-Placed Optimus G Billboards in Times Square
Someone on LG’s marketing street team is a genius. This morning, new billboards went up in Times Square, directly over Samsung’s “The Next Galaxy” ad that reads, “LG Optimus is here 4 you now!” We know that Samsung spent $400+ million dollars on marketing Galaxy last year alone, but it’s starting to look like they [...]

LG trolls Samsung’s Times Square billboards with Optimus G ’4′ ads
The press is headed to Radio City Music Hall for Samsung’s Galaxy S IV event in a few hours, but the company has also taken up consumer-focused presence in Times Square — where rival LG is waiting. As shown in the pic, LG has refashioned its billboards (which it already occupied for 20 years before the new neighbor moved in below last year) to mock Samsung’s “4″ themed advertising, touting that the Optimus G is “here 4 you now”, among other messages. They’d probably have a better chance of grabbing our attention if the upgraded Optimus G Pro were here 4 us instead, but that’s not an option yet. Still, we have to appreciate a prank pulled off well enough that it even scores some screen time in a Samsung promo video (at :49 and 2:04) embedded after the break.

Samsung tells everyone in Times Square to ‘Be Ready 4 The Next Galaxy’
When it comes to Android phones and marketing, Samsung is the reigning king. A lot of people are already aware of a certain event that Samsung has planned for next week, but for those that just aren’t in the know, Samsung wanted to make sure they do. Throwing up a huge billboard in the center of Times Square could help that cause in a major way, and that’s what Samsung did.
Samsung is the only Android manufacturer that could pull this off and kudos to them. They earned it, and there is nothing wrong with going big. The Unpacked Galaxy S IV launch event will be one of the biggest Samsung Mobile events ever and TalkAndroid will be there to give you all the information as it happens.

Samsung invites the general public to “be ready 4 the next galaxy” at Times Square in New York
It’s no surprise that Samsung plans on introducing its “Next Big Thing” in just two weeks from now, but many of you have been a little blue because select members of the press will only be able to attend the anticipated unveiling… or so you think. Samsung is has unleashed one heck of a marketing strategy by using Twitter to invite the general public to Times Square in New York to “Be Ready 4 The Next Galaxy”. The event will be streamed and likely allow the public to see Samsung share something special which is pretty much the biggest signal that we should be ready for the next Galaxy S iteration.
Of course if you can’t make it to the big event out in New York, you should stay tuned with Talk Android as we’ll be there giving you guys all the juicy coverage you can handle.

Samsung wants fans to be at Times Square for Galaxy S4 unveiling March 14th
Samsung is really drumming up a lot of noise of the announcement of the Galaxy S4. The company scheduled an event in New York City on March 14th (at quite the major venue, I might add) to hold the press conference live. The general public wasn’t invited to that particular venue, but they will be able to watch a live stream via YouTube. Now, Samsung has announced another big way to keep up with all that will be going on that day.
Samsung has announced on Twitter that it would at Times Square with open arms for any fan who wants to get in on the fun. It sounds like they have something pretty big planned, though we could just as easily be getting a simple video board unveiling.
Either way, if you are going to be in New York City that day and want to feel like you’re part of the action then why not make a stop by Samsung’s place to take it all in for yourself? In the meantime, we’ll be right around the corner bringing you live coverage of everything Samsung has to show! Things kick-off 7pm local time.

Samsung invites public to Times Square for its Galaxy S IV unveiling
So, what are you up to on March 14th? If your idea of a good time is seeing a new smartphone unveiled, Samsung’s arranging just such a party at Times Square in New York for the upcoming Galaxy S IV, according to a recent tweet. We’d guess that revelers will get to watch a livestream of the recently announced Samsung Unpacked 2013 shindig for the new handset on the block’s famous big screens, while the event itself happens at Radio City Music hall. There’s no other details other than the @timessquare Twitter handle, but if you’re not in the big apple, you’ll be able to catch it right here instead, of course.

Times Square Official Ball app updated to ring in 2013

The official Times Square Ball app has just been updated to help you count down to 2013. Not everyone has a chance to be in Times Square for the new year, but at least with this app everyone can (assuming device compatibility) get part of the experience. It's not the smoothest or flashiest thing ever, but the app serves its purpose. You get a nice countdown to the new year, a livestream viewer of Times Square (you can watch the 2012 party currently) and you can even upload a photo to be shown on the big screen if you're lucky.
Sound interesting? You can grab a download for free at the Play Store link above. It probably doesn't do you much good over 10 days out from the party, but you'll have it installed and ready to go for New Years Eve.
Enjoy New Years with the official Times Square Ball Drop app for 2013
Just like years past, Countdown Entertainment and Toshiba have released their brand new and updated Official Times Square Ball Drop app for Android. They’ve completely updated and redesigned the app for the new year, and as expected supports the latest versions of Android and more. To learn how to get your picture on the big screen live in New York this year read on below for all the details.

If you’ve never been to New York City on New Years Eve it’s a site worth seeing at least once. Same goes for my little town here in Las Vegas!! Today Toshiba and Times Square have tossed their latest edition of this popular app in the Play Store. The update is available as we speak and looks rather nice, as always.
Just like last year, Toshiba has their massive screen right in the middle of Town Square. Using their official Ball Drop app users on Android and iOS can upload their photo right to the app, and if you’re lucky your face will be shown right on the big-screen for the entire world to see. Better make it a New Years kiss with that lucky someone. I’ll be doing a toast myself.
The app will be streaming all of the NYC live performances by tons of popular artists, there’s a Times Square wedding this year they’ll be showing, as well as the countdown and ball drop of course. Don’t forget to stay up til midnight to watch the Crystal ball drop in all its glory. Bust out the champagne and enjoy yourself. Get the official Times Square Ball drop app right now from the Google Play Store.

Nokia takes over Times Square for Lumia 900 launch event (video)
We’re still not exactly sure what Nicki Minaj has to do with Nokia’s new Lumia 900, but the company put her at the center of its promotional efforts in a launch event Friday night that took over Times Square. Oh, you missed it? For just the visual effect of what went on including CGI dancers on massing LED displays and coordinated effects on the tourist destination’s many video boards (been there, done that) you can check out our gallery of pics from the event, or look below for the video. If you’re all about the phones, Nokia is pushing its Windows Phone 7 flagship with new “the smartphone beta test is over” ads — there’s also one of those embedded after the break. So, is anyone concerned Nokia might not be doing enough to promote this new phone?

Lenovo K1 IdeaPad Honeycomb tablet at Office Depot already
Pop quiz: What is 10.1 inches in diagonal, sports a Tegra 2 processor and Android’s Honeycomb tablet OS, and is sitting in an Office Depot in Times Square? If you answered the Lenovo K1 IdeaPad, well, pat yourself on the back. Because sure enough, the Android tablet that doesn’t actually have a release date yet is just sitting in a New York City Office Depot, ready to get your greasy fingerprints all over it.
Specs are about what you’d expect for a $499 tablet — 10.1-inch screen at 1280×800, 32GB of storage, 1GB of RAM, and it weighs 1.65 pounds. OK, those are the specs for just about every other Honeycomb tablet, but there you go. The one you see above was charged and would turn on, but was password protected.
So, we’ve got price. No word on if you can actually walk out of the store with one.
Couple more pics after the break.
Thanks, Lukasz!
Google Maps Transit Navigation beta for Android hands-on (video)
Earlier this afternoon, Google pushed Maps v5.7 to the Android Market. The app’s Transit Navigation (beta) feature brings GPS stop-by-stop nav to public transit systems in over 400 cities around the world, helping you find the subway or bus stop, then letting you know exactly when to get off as you ride. There are obvious benefits to using this in a foreign city, where alert-enabled (English!) directions could potentially save you hours of frustration. We left our office to brave the daylight in NYC, walking a block to the nearest subway station en-route to Times Square. The app worked well up until we reached the bottom of the first staircase, where it lost cell reception and its GPS fix. Jump past the break to see how it fared above ground, and check out our hands-on video for a Google Maps-led adventure through New York City’s public transit system.
