Sony NSZ-GS7 Google TV player review

Ever since CES 2012 we've been hearing that a Google TV push is coming. First at bat comes from Sony, with their NSZ-GS7 (add in a Blu-ray to get the NSZ-GS9) which features everything you love about Google TV combined with new hardware and Sony's touch in the application drawer. Checking in at $199 puts it at odds with plenty of other (and often cheaper) competition like a Roku, or even a cheap HTPC.
I was a big fan of the first generation of Google TV hardware, so I was excited to have a look how it works with newer, better spec'd units. Read on to see how it went.
Comcast updates XFINITY TV Player app to support Jelly Bean, Nexus 7
Comcast released an update to their XFINITY TV Player app today. The update notes indicate they are now providing beta support for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and specifically the Google Nexus 7 tablet. Comcast also indicates they are going to provide an interface optimized for a 7” screen in the next update for the app. Hit the break for the download link to the Play Store.
Even though the app now supports the leading edge for Android operating systems, it is still backwards compatible to Android 2.3. Using the XFINITY TV Player, users can access content on demand from major networks and premium channels. One does need to be a Comcast customer to be able to log on to the service.
Are you a Comcast customer who uses the XFINITY TV Player? Share your impressions of the app and the service. Sounds like a nice combination – certainly better than what I currently have available through TWC.
Comcast Xfinity TV Player app brings VOD streaming to Android devices
After introducing video on-demand streaming for mobile devices on the iPad early last year and iPhone last May, Comcast has finally extended the courtesy to Android users as well. Unlike its iOS counterpart however, on Android there’s a separate Xfinity TV Player (simply labeled “Player” in the launcher) app from the Xfinity TV remote control app. It’s a free download from Google Play for devices running Android 2.3 or higher and when we checked it out just now it was smooth but plain looking, although it a native tablet interface at launch is a nice touch. Beyond the usual VOD selections (including HBO Go and more) there’s also support for Comcast’s Streampix subscription service within the app as it promised back in February. One odd quirk noted by Android Police is that on rooted devices the app apparently requests root permissions, but still works if they are denied (could be worse). There aren’t many other details available yet, if you want to try it out grab your Comcast account info and hit the source link to give it a shot.

[New App] XFINITY TV Player Gives Comcast/Xfinity Subscribers Access To TV And Movies On The Go, Including Streampix
Today, we move yet another teeny tiny step forward to the truly digital future of television. Xfinity has launched the XFINITY TV Player which, aside from a name that’s needlessly yelling, gives Comcast/Xfinity subscribers access to a host of television and movies on their Android 2.3+ devices. Both phones and tablets are supported.
The app supports Streampix, so for those of you who sprung for the extra $5/month service, this will give you access to that content, consolidated with all of the other available content on the service, including XFINITY On Demand. The app also looks great, with a proper separate phone and tablet UI, as you can see above.
