Titanium Backup Updated To Version 5.8 With Web Server Backup Up/Download, Support For USB MTP, And More
Titanium Backup, perhaps the most popular and powerful root backup solution available, got an update to version 5.8 today, an update that brought with it fixes, added support, and new features.
Probably the most significant new feature is the addition of web server backup uploading and downloading (for Pro users). If that sounded like a sentence written in Greek, we’ll try to expound – what this means is that your device can now start a web server right from the Titanium Backup interface. You can then download and upload backups on your PC by accessing the server (in a method similar to AirDroid).

[CES 2013] NVIDIA Announces Tegra 4-Powered "Project Shield" Handheld Gaming Console Running Pure Android
After about 45 minutes of casual sexism and awkward pauses, NVIDIA’s Jen-Hsun Huang dropped the bomb. Project Shield is a handheld gaming console running pure, unmodified Android. At its core is the newly announce Tegra 4 ARM chip, but that’s not all.
The device looks like a standard wireless controller with a flip-up screen. Around the back are I/O ports, and there’s no proprietary nonsense here. HDMI, USB, microSD, and an audio jack. This isn’t just a render, either – the device was shown off on stage. Jen-Hsun Huang used Project Shield to push a 4K video over HDMI to a 4K TV as well.

Vodafone UK To Begin Offering ‘Nearly New’ Smartphones To Pay-As-You-Go Customers
It’s easy for the tech world to forget that not everyone is looking to buy a new $200 phone on contract every six months. Vodafone UK hasn’t forgotten, though. The British carrier is launching a new service to help put top-tier smartphones in the hands of pay-as-you-go customers by selling them lightly used hardware. More specifically, phones exchanged within the carrier’s 7-day return window.
If you’re buying a phone without a contract, the up-front cost would be slightly cheaper, as one would expect from a used device. For those concerned, stores do check to ensure the mobiles still work, wipe any data or settings, and package them up with any requisite accessories.

T-Mobile Stores To Carry Nexus 4 In All Retail Locations Starting Some Time In January
It certainly seems like Google and LG have been ramping up production of the Nexus 4 after the initial launch left countless customers without a phone. While it’s still unclear if they’ve made enough to meet worldwide demand, there will at least be one group that will finally have complete representation: T-Mobile stores! Back in November, the company picked up Google’s latest flagship handset online and in ‘select stores.’ As of some undisclosed time this month, however, all retail locations will carry the Nexus 4.
It doesn’t look like anything related to device subsidies or contract requirements are going to change, despite a brief scare in December when the on-contract price shot up to $400.

Une Bobine Review: /Facepalm
We’ve looked at a wide variety of accessories over the past couple of years: cases, cradles, headphones, speakers, etc., but I’m not quite sure we’ve ever seen a product like Une Bobine. In a nutshell, it’s a microUSB cable. But it’s not your average USB cable – it’s an adjustable, bendable, flexible USB cable that can be used to hold your phone – a dock and cable in one, if you will.
Now, the first question you may be asking yourself is: why would I want this? To answer that honestly, I really have no idea. I’ve had this thing for several weeks now, and I really can’t find a good use for it.

Nova Launcher Updated, Adds A Slew Of New Features

The widely known Nova Launch has just been upgraded to version 2.0 and adds a slew of new features and bug fixes. A whole lot hasn’t been added to the paid “Prime” version of the launcher, as the free version has the spotlight this time around, albeit there were a few fixes. The free version has gotten improvements like custom wallpaper cropping, increased desktop grid size and a scrolling app drawer option. A fix was also released for the U.S. Galaxy S II to force wallpaper scrolling. In addition to that, a setting was added that will force the phone to keep the Nova Launcher locked in memory. Overall good new for free users, I’d say.
Those who are used the paid or “Prime” version of Nova Launcher are now able to set their very own custom icon sizes. In addition to that, swipe actions can now be used on any home screen, as opposed to being limited to the primary one.
If you’re wanting to give these new features a test run, be sure to hit the Google Play Store link below!
Facedroid Finally Comes To Phones With Update To Version 2.52, Goes On Sale For $0.99
Facedroid is an app that ambitiously set out to give users a more powerful, functional Facebook experience. Until now, though, it was only available for Android tablets.
In a substantial update to version 2.52 today, that changed – the new update finally brings Facedroid to your phone. The phone interface, as you may expect, looks to bring the same functionality users have come to know and love from the tablet version. That being said, it should be noted that the phone interface is in beta, so users can expect that not everything works perfectly yet (for example, the widget pictured below doesn’t seem to be available yet, and photo album names can be misaligned).

[Editorial] Play Store Wishlist: How We’d Like To See Google Improve Its Content Storefront In 2013
Hey guys, have you heard that 2012 is almost over? Yep! The new millennium is about to be a teenager. It’s exciting. (No, the year 2000 is not included, you mathematically remedial cur.) The past twelve months have been fantastic and we’ll be hearing more about that later, but one of the things we felt the need to talk a bit more in-depth about is the Play Store. You know the one.
The last year has been hugely transformative for the Play Store. Most notably, it’s now called the Play Store! Play Store Play Store Play Store. Let it sink in real deep, because you’re gonna be stuck with it for a while, much to David’s dismay.

Verizon’s NFL Mobile App Gets Slightly Less Terrible With Free Tablet Streaming For Verizon FiOS Subscribers
We’ve lamented the various restrictions on NFL Mobile’s streaming audio and video before: the fact that it costs extra even for games on public broadcast, the fact that you can’t use it with HDMI output, and most of all, the fact that it’s only available on Verizon. Today the app gets a little less restrictive, at least assuming that you use Verizon FiOS for your home Internet connection. The latest update indicates that FiOS subscribers will be able to access NFL Mobile live streaming on their tablets for free. I guess they figured that they’ve got enough of your money.
The update text reads as follows: “Now Verizon FiOS customers can enjoy Live video on Android Tablets.” We don’t have a connection to test, but we suppose that means that WiFi tablets are fair game for streaming, so long as you have a FiOS account.

Llama Updated With Jelly Bean Support, Holo Inspired UI, Event Sharing, And More [Update: Llama Temporarily Pulled From The Play Store]

KebabApps, in a blog post, provides more information on the issue, along with a (hopefully) fixed download, which users are encouraged to test, and which will be uploaded to the Play Store “tomorrow morning.”

Springpad Update Brings ‘Board’ Support For Tablets, Several Tweaks And Bug Fixes
I have a confession to make. I don’t care for Evernote. ‘Hang him from a gibbet!’ I know, but I just prefer Springpad. Which is why I was excited today to see that the newest update brings tablet support for one of the coolest features: Springpad Board. This view allows users to look at all the elements of their notebook—be they text, photos, maps, to-do lists or whatever—as though they are sitting on a table. You can slide and move them around as you will. It’s a lovely interface.
The new feature works on any Android tablet, though as you’d expect it’s a little cramped on devices like the Nexus 7.
